Daihatsu has announced the 2019 Copen Coupe.

With limited production of just 200 cars, the new model has a fixed roof made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic and a rear glass hatch.

There are black and tan leather interior options.

Toyota has now completed its full takeover of Daihatsu. The purchase was completed on August 1.

Toyota announced the plan to take full ownership of Daihatsu in January, in which it already had a 51 percent stake. The two companies formed a business partnership in 1967, and Daihatsu became a Toyota subsidiary in 1998.

The new model Copen has been formally launched by Daihatsu in Japan.

Daihatsu has stuck with the Copen name rather than the "Kopen" name it used with the concept models. The first model is known as the Copen "Robe", with a sportier model currently code-named Copen X to be released later.

Autocar is reporting that the Copen is set to make a comeback.

The Copen was built for a 10 year period from 2002, with the final car rolling off the production line in August 2012.

Daihatsu has announced that production of the Copen will cease in August 2012.

Originally unveiled as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1999, the car went into production in 2002, with around 56,000 made to date.

Carscoop reports that Daihatsu is introducing a revised Copen for 2011.

The trim has been improved, and there is a new "Ultimate S" model with "a restyled grille, dark coloured 15-inch BBS alloys, a Momo steering wheel and gear lever, plus the option of full leather sport seats or a set of Recaro buckets draped in Alcantara".

Could Daihatsu dealers become Great Wall dealers?

It looks like I.M Group (the ex importers of Daihatsu) will be importing Chinese Great Wall cars according to Car Dealer Magazine. And they have been looking into it for the last 10 years!!

IM's Paul Hegarty ex-operations director for Daihatsu, and now managing director of Great Wall Motor Distributors (UK) said

‘There is no link at all between our talks with Great Wall and the demise of Daihatsu in the UK.'

Daihatsu Resumes Production in Japan

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11, Daihatsu is to resume production at its plants in Osaka and Kyoto on April 18.

This will mean that all of its Japanese plants will now be back in operation, although not all will be running at full capacity as the supply of some parts is still limited.
