Does anyone know if it's possible or know of any tricks to turn off the passenger airbag, I want to take my 3 year old for a spin but need the airbag turned off!??

    Thanks Mike Tiz.

What does fuse 17 correspond to ? It shows as A/B in the manual ? I guess you could pull it and see if you get a warning light.

    It's for the airbag(s) apparently.

I think that was what the original post was looking for.

Yes, that the only way with then blinking Led in Display. No risk no fun.. its bad for your insurance. My Copen is the lonely car in my carpark with airbags. Other are older without. :wasntme: its your life. And Dia said no young guest in the seats.. but with this little car you are dead or seriously injure. Think about it
    whether it is worth.

It's up to Mike but he clearly doesn't want to risk taking his son for a spin with the airbag active, which presumably compromises his son's safety, so the only option seems to be to disable both airbags, have a steady short drive with the youngster and then put the fuse back.

The trouble with risk is that as more safety aids are added, people take more risks in the assumption that the technology will save them. Seat belts were only "recommended" when I passed my driving test and I've subsequently relied on the bulk of Jaguars, Land Rovers, and the X5 to ward off the automotive grim reaper.

Since @Mike Tiz is stating his son is 3 years old, he's most likely no longer in a rear-facing child seat. That would be really nasty in case of a triggered airbag. With a front-facing seat, I don't really see any harm in airbag deployment. It is true the body weight and positioning of the child might be suboptimal for the passenger airbag, but I'd think I'd greatly prefer both airbags deploying over no airbags deploying in this case. I would just leave the fuse and enjoy your Copen together!

I really have little faith in airbags.

And they really only do much in a direct head-on collision to boot. I'd happily turn them both off, honestly I'd turn my own off anyway if it was simple to do. A high speed head-on collision is probably the most unlikely, I know I'd be swerving to try and dodge, and frankly I don't see an airbag in a Copen doing all that much, if you're getting hit hard enough for it to be useful your car is likely to be a pancake!

You could always strap him to the roof of the Vauxhall so he gets the Copen experience :)

Now there's an idea, he could always go in the boot with a few of he's toys (joking of course)
