Hi All, My Copen needs some work done and my mechanic has said I could really do with a specialist. Does anyone know anyone in or near Birmingham who has experience of working in a Copen beyond just servicing? Many thanks! Julia
Hi Julia, If you go to the Daihatsu UK website there is a map showing where all the legacy Daihatsu service agents are located. Although they have not sold new cars in the UK for some time Daihatsu have retained a small network of service centres with access to the parts catalogue etc.. Hope this helps.
Hi Nigel, Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, there's no one near Birmingham...and the closest one has never had a Copen in for a new timing chain so I'm still on the lookout. Thanks again, Julia
If you have the 1.3 liter engine, ask at a toyota dealer for a timing chain replacement (does your car really need a new timing chain?). The Toyota 2SZ-FE engine is (almost) identical to the Daihatsu K3-VE engine
Thanks for your suggestion. I actually have the 659cc model. My mechanic looked at it and it's definitely the chain rattling (though still only occasionally, thank goodness) but he doesn't feel comfortable doing the replacement himself.
It will not be easy finding sombody who has ever worked on this engine, as it is uncommon among european Toyota/Daihatsu models. Maybe a general engine specialist (we call them "Motorinstandsetzer") and a printout of the service manual might work if you cannot find anyone at the former Daihatsu dealerships.
