after the tragic premature death of my poor old turbo copen i'm looking for a new car - and perhaps another copen. clearly it's not as simple as looking for a new fiesta. i've found a garage not too far selling a 1.3 from 2008 with around 40,000 on the clock. i've queried what seemed like a high price, they have offered to go down to 6000. all other things being correct - bodywork etc, does that sound like a fair price? i've seen others go for lower but clearly it's a sellers market. as i need a new car for work it's a bit of a now or never thing - if i have to buy a boring car instead that will be it for the next 10 years. so.... 6000 sounds good or should i hold out for a few more weeks?
Sent PM. Seems a little expensive to me? But then I just recently seen a Figaro for £8.5k! Surely a Copen is much better value and ticks the same kind of boxes?
I paid 5.5k for my 2008 with forty something thousand on the clock and that was over two years ago so it's the equivalent of a 2010 today. I would say 6k is well over priced. Offer him 5 and then walk away.
1.3 I paid £5,200 for a very clean 1.3 with 41k, 3 months ago. It was advertised at £5,900 but haggled it down to 5.2k. It was a private sale. Garages are offering around 4k for a part exchange so if buy from private seller, you will be better off.
Slightly overpriced I'd say. We paid just over 6k for my 2008 1.3 two years ago, and that had only done 7000 miles.
Same here, I paid £6000 for my 2008 with 18000 miles 2 years ago, it was however slightly more than I got in write off value for my Figaro. The problem is with difficult to source cars, like the Fig or the Copen, there will usually be someone happy to pay a premium for a good model. I had my Figaro for over 10 years and ended up only losing £1000 on what I paid for it much better depreciation than a Fiesta!
Very hard to judge - look at autotrader to get some idea, but as you already know, there just aren't that many coming up for sale and they hold their value quite well. 6000 is top end price for that age so it needs to be immaculate. Scratches, scuffed wheels, interior marks should all knock that price down a bit. Also the mileage suggests it isn't a locked-in-a garage-for-half-the-year car so this should bring it down a bit too. Another thought, has it got extra shiny bits or add-ons which would suggest the previous owner really cared for the car. so... Immaculate - yes otherwise haggle.
Well, dsb, I would tend to agree with the other Copenistas that £6K is a tad on the high side. I guess your main difficulty is the time factor, coupled with the Indian summer that’s gonna be keeping prices higher. When I tracked down Neville I was lucky to have more time and the depths of winter on my side – I found him deep in the internet, in North Wales, a dent or two, a 59-plater with 18.5K on the clock for just £4.7K, so I was able to save £1-2K. So my advice would be, if you can give yourself a couple of weeks to search and you’re prepared to travel for the right car, to spend time trawling through Google; for example this 2008 one might still be available at £4.6K: http://www.exchangeandmart.co.uk/us...n-1.3-roadster-convertible-2d-1298cc-16685033 Good luck, and do keep us posted with your search!
This one's in Manchester, if you're prepared to travel that far, and was put up 2 weeks ago: http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-...dster-hard-top-convertible-2007-fh/1050355161
the seller of the pricey ones said they had no rust but 'some blemishes' in that case i'll wait for as long as I can hold out....
there's one on autotrader for £7500! - claims to even have a security tag whatever that is - satellite tracking?- like with a Ferrari or lambo !?
Went to view it today , quite a few blemishes on the paint a ding in one rear arch and rust on the other arch. will l need 3 tyres and a new battery ,have left him with a bid so see what happens
my advice would be to buy one privately then you'll get a good deal over any trader as all they want to do is make money
