What tires will fit?

One of my tires keeps leaking air, so I'm gonna get a replacement, but I'm struggling to find any tires that are 165/50/R15 in the UK.
So I'm thinking maybe I could use a different size?
But what other sizes would fit the standard 15 inch rims and not scrape on anything?

I found some 165/55/R15 Bridgestone Potenza RE030 tires and I'm wondering if they would fit?
They have a higher aspect ratio, but I'm not sure if that would cause any issue?
other than making the speedo read differently of course

I also found some 175/55/R15 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A
But will they be too wide for the standard wheel?

Hi AFRON1 National Tyres do Bridgestone which fit the Copen. Buy them on line it is cheaper and they will sort fitting.

First off, make sure it is your tyre not your wheel - sometimes damage or corrosion on the rim of your alloys or even a slight crack could let air escape, if you have decent tread on the tyres it's more likely to be the wheel imo. Suck to buy 4 new tyres then find out you need to refurbish or replace your wheel!

Bridgestone seem to run out of Copen sized tyres every couple years, then they produce a whole bunch and they're back in stock everywhere. Right now I can't find anywhere that has them either, not in the UK at least. There are a couple budget makes, Nankang for example, some people on here like those but your tyres are pretty important. Without grip, you can't brake, turn or accelerate, budget tyres are the last thing I'd save money on!
If you're not desperate, you could wait a month or so, or you might pick up some cheap off someone in the Daihatsu Copen Spare Parts FB group (you're in that right? I've seen you post in the Copen group and Tony links the spare parts group constantly) or off Ebay.

165/55 has passed the German TUV apparently, so that's fine. 175/55 is possibly going to be a problem, that's another 28mm diameter over the standard, so 14mm closer to the wheel arch. 175/50 works if you can find anything in that size!

Edit-This is kinda fun to play around with to check the different sizes, it shows the change in diameter/width ect so you can see what might work and what probably won't. Rim & Tire Size Calculator. Custom Offsets

what Vin P said. I've had leaking due to corrosion of the rim. A tyre place will take the tyre off, clean up the corrosion and refit and that will help. If getting new tyres check they are also going to clean the rim corrosion or you may have new tyres and an old leak.

Tricky for UK owners due to insurance issues. The Daihatsu specification is for 73V on the 1300cc whereas I noticed that mine is running on some obscure 72V M&S tyres on the front (which may explain a couple of things). I need to source some Bridgestone Potenzas of the right rating ASAP or drive like miss Daisy.

The difference between 72 and 73 V tyres is 355kg per tyre vs 365kg. I admit I’m carrying an extra few pounds but 1.4 tonnes for a Copen !!!

Well it’s looking like a futile search for the right load rating. I can get 72V or 75V. The 75s are labelled 4x4 tyres and will no doubt have a suitably crappy ride.

My Bridgestones on the rear of Noddy are starting to crack despite being 2014 tyres so it’s getting a bit pressing now. I’ve tried all the National places so it’s a case of trying places that may have a smaller turnover and some bridgestones stuck at the back of a warehouse.

Don’t suppose anyone has a local supplier ?

If you're at the point where all 4 need changing, I'd consider switching tyre size.

The Ling Long look like they fit the bill with all the right numbers and better wet braking. I’m just not sure I want to risk my life on a et of Ling Long. Sounds too much like Love you long time !

One of my front tires on Sachihiro are "achillies economist" and I cant remember what the other side was, but one of them isn't as good as the other. Its always the front left that looses grip first. (again I cant remember if it was the economist or the other brand on the front left)
twice under hard-ish acceleration the front left spun and lost grip (It was a little bit wet on one occasion) and while cornering, sachihiro seems to under steer on right turns but doesn't under steer on left turns on similar bends at the same speed.

The front left is a federal formanza (Thats the rubbish one)
The front right is the economist
and both rears are Potenza RE040
another thing I found out is the formanza is the only tire on Sachihiro that is rated 75v so maybe they are meant to be as low as 73v?

    @AFR0N1

Thanks for the very useful feedback. Just goes to show how shared experience can help others.

    @Vin Petrol

I emailed Speedys and they reckoned they would be able to get more but that looks like a dead end for Bridgestones too. They did offer to send me a link to alternatives though and were very responsive, so A+ for customer service.

I’ve finally had confirmation that the Bridgestone tyres are no longer available. So, given that the online tyre finder searches show the only available tyres to be 165/50 R15 72V, I’ll be fitting the Nankangs as they’re the best available mid range tyre. I’ll let you know how they feel once they’re on and deglazed.

Has anyone bought replacement wheel nuts lately ? I’ve done a forum search but the most recent posts seem to be from 2016. If anyone has a link to a decent seller, could you please post it here.

    Many thanks,

    Rob.

What brand of tires does the second gen Copen come with?
I know that the LA400K has 16 inch wheels rather than 15's but every other dimension is the same as the L880K/L881K.

Look for a short wheel nut if possible or they'll stick out of the wheel face, I used MX5 chrome wheel nuts which are about 25mm long, found them on Ebay, I can only see some rather grotty ones there atm though and they're about £70 new.

    LA400K is on Bridgestone Potenza RE050 165/50 R 16 75V
