I'm thinking of replacing my wheels for some new wider alloys - 6" with an offset of somewhere around 35, and maybe use some shims to make sure the tyres don't foul the steering rods inside. In theory I could use some 185/50 rubber, but I am anxious the new width might mean they foul the wheel arches over bumps. I could go down to 185/45 to make a bit of room, but I'm not sure how that might look... Anyway, the long and the short of it is this - Do you have wider wheels? What tyres do you have, and do they run with no problems? Cheers
I currently have 165/50s on standard wheels. Did you go down to 45s to make clearance, or for some other reason?
The 45 or 50 is a percentage. 45% of 185mm or 50% of 165mm. Even at a 185/45 tyre, the rubber is a few millimeters taller than with the standard 165/50. So for clearance reasons, you should maybe not go for a 50 or 55 tyre
Yes the wider 6.5 inch rim needed a wider tyre so moved from 160 tp 185mm wide. But the 185 tyre at 50% profile is a larger diameter so dropping to 45 mostly balances every thing back up.
