    hi,
sorry for the newbie questions but I like to be informed in advance.
so, if I end up with a copen it will probably be the smaller engined one.
how often exactly does the oil and oil filter need changing?
i'm pretty sure that i read 3000 miles somewhere but when i mentioned that in passing to my brother he almost spat his tea out as if i'd told some kind of joke.
plus, what would be the typical cost of getting that done by pro?

and then , a general service - how often does it like those? - and again, a typical cost?

if this all sounds like stuff i should know, in my defence i should point out i'm a late starter to the world of driving and it's all greek to me.
    thanks!

Yes, the 659 engine needs fresh oil every 3000 miles, oil change every 6000 miles.
Air filter every 27000 miles/3 years.
    Spark plugs every 36000 miles.
    Coolant every 2 years.
I recently paid just under £100 for an oil change & filter. This was a none Daihatsu dealer using good oil, genuine filter. With an engine flush too.
It depends on your mechanics hourly rate.
I'd guess just an oil change would be in the £60 area.
Genuine air filters aren't cheap, but you can get filters for @ £20 on eBay.

If you do a lot of miles, I'd suggest saving for a 1.3 Copen.

Your first line there Adam. Did you mean oil and filter change every 6000 miles?

that all sounds pretty reasonable - guess i have to weigh the extra service costs of the 0.6 to the higher purchase price of the 1.3
then i just have to justify the purchase price to myself when i could get a slk for a couple of hundred more.... hmmmm !
    thanks

The slk will cost you a lot more in running costs. They are poor on fuel compared to a Copen, plus road tax and insurance are significantly higher. Add to that the cost of tyres and other parts that might need replacing and the Copen works out a lot cheaper. Mercedes parts and dealer servicing are far from cheap.
