So how much BHP do you think I would get with fitting the new Stainless steel exhaust?

Without taking the cat out and fitting a different manifold? Maybe 3-5hp. It does not make a huuuuge difference. Top speed stayed the same. But it sounds good and does not rust (unlike the rest of your car) :D

    Hello,
I wonder is a YRV exhaust manifold/ catalytic conv. would have better flow (less restriction) than the original copen manifold?
I'ts the only one I could find that looks like it could fit with minor modification.
It will also fit my 3SZ-VE engine.

Depends on how much catalytic cells per inch the YRV one has, less cells = less restriction.

But I can see why you ask, the pipes on the YRV manifold look bigger and better placed

I have thought about cutting away the catalytic converter and replace it with a less restricted stainless steel one by welding it in, but I'm scared and do not own a welder, also the TÜV/MOT would kill me :D

My idea is to buy a YRV manifold and remove the catalytic cells. This way all looks original when passing MOT.

Salieri, don't worry my friend, rust is lurking in or around your cars bodywork somewhere - believe me. Just remove the back and front bumpers or the inner plastic arch shields and rust will be there staring you in the face.

But will the check engine light not come on because the o2(lambda) sensors notice the difference?

Soc: I have taken care of most rust, the remaining bits and pieces are just surface rust, but they have been sprayed with fluidfilm

No idea, why do we have two, as redundancy to ensure measurement, or to check if catalytic conc. works?

Great to hear (but not so if you know what I mean), I was under the impression that my Copen was suffering more from rust than the typical Copen. I too have spent many hours rust proofing and waxing. Next week I will spray the under chassis with under-seal and that should be the last bit of protection ready for our winter. Next job will be to get a stainless steel exhaust fitted as I do miss some sporty sounds. I do like the sound of the following fiat cars, what do you think?

The two sensors are there to check if the cat is still good and to tune the engine for correct fuel mixture (lean/rich). If you take the cat out, I am pretty sure the check engine light will light up - no MOT for you...

Soc: Lets hope the rust protection holds up to your expectations :D
My copen sounded like the first of your videos when it only had one silencer installed (a "cherry bomb", looks like a bullet). But it was a bit too loud for my liking (and I am sure for the people at MOT as well). But it is definitely possible. Just tell the people that manufacture the exhaust to use only one small silencer.

I have attached a link so you can imagine what kind of silencer I mean:

You see really another car with handmade manifold!!!Believe me!Because copen have bad manifold and corked all exhaust. Also to churn the catalyst with free evaporation cauldron..All this kit at least 10hp!!!

marinos: what about the o2 (lambda) sensors? Where did you put them (i cannot see it in the picture) and did you get a "check engine light" because you took away the catalyst?

I wonder what sound you'd have by deleting on of the standard Copen boxes.

Salieri: I dont have any problem with o2 (lambda) sensors!Νot lit lamp the display! If you want more powerhorse take off catalyst because clogs all exhaust gas. This is typical first stage tuning-------->
    1)Air filter
    2)Handmade manifold export
    3)Remove catalyst
    4)Racing cauldron exhaust
5)Reprogramming ECU (this is difficult stage because it need ONLY parallel brain or unwritten brain)

    Τhe sound is exciting...believe me!

Marinos, I think I will replace the exhaust but is it worth doing an ECU remap on the 1.3 model as there is no turbo so I presume there will be a minimal improvement say 5 bhp or will it be more?

Soc, remap ECU is very difficult for atmosphere engine for Copen. The powerhorses when you win is 5-7hp..and price is very high...maybe 800-1000euro!Νot worth..

My friend Soc make all the above (outside remap ECU) and you see another car...!!!
