Does a timing chain need changing at the same intervals as a timing belt? eg every 100ks

I am a carpenter so please excuse my totally useless mechanical knowledge.

    Cheers Neil

I think I read that the use of a chain makes it unnecessary to change as you do with a belt -but then what do I know? - I wouldn't have a clue what to do under my bonnet.

The Daihatsu service manual for the 659 turbo doesn't specify any intervals for changing the timing chain.

Timing chains will, generally, outlive the engine.

The only time you would normally replace the chain is if it is squeaking - evne then, a lot of grease will do the job.
