Bette Bumble needs some general panel and wheel arch rust removed and re sprayed.
Nothing too bad as the wheel arches had been under sealed.

First local to Salisbury quote I had in was for £2,000 plus VAT, gulp!!

Anyone else had a re spray done recently or someone have suggestions on reasonable re painting charges?

    Cheers,
    Toozalii

Crikey @Toozalii - that's a ridiculous amount! Sounds to me like they don't want the job! When Neville had a dent and a crease in his passenger door and rear quarter panel, the local specialist who did it charged me £100/panel. The most I've spent on him with regard to damage/respray is £360. I know that folks on here who've had major work done on the rear wheel arches, replacing whole panels and the like, have seen prices over £1k, but £2k + VAT seems a no-no to me! :(:punch:

If that's a full respray and the panels need work, decent price. If it's just bits and pieces, rip-off. Really can't say without a better idea of what needs doing, how many panels they're working on ect.

Called into a posh paint shop I was passing down on the south coast and the friendly owner suggested £1500 upwards for paintwork and a bit of rust sorting. He said it might be easiet to buy second hand panels to replace rather than him cutting and welding.

Then went to a near to me paint shop in Wilton who also quoted £1500 upwards with no guarantee of rust not coming back.

Three units down from him was another paint shop who quoted £850 for the same work.

    Confused???!!!

My little Sachihiro has a little bit of rust, that I'm yet to get fixed, but I have been quoted @ around £600 for the job at one place so I think you're being ripped off.

ok maybe that was a bit of an understatement
but compared with 90% of copen's I've ever seen in person, Sachihiro is actually quite clean in comparison
Maybe Copen's are just more prone to rust here in the UK?

I used to repair cars and spray them as my main job , what I would say is you get what you pay for sometimes and it depends how long you want the job to last , what quality of work you want done and the quality of the paint and materials can make a huge difference to how long it will last .
Do you want a full respray or just the rusty panels done , regardless if it has been undercoated if the metal is rusty and you want a proper job it will need cutting out fully re patching with new metal , etc etc , if you want a cheaper job they will tap the metal down and fill it , so it hides the rust for a few yrs .
Yes there are people out there to rip you off but not all of them . 2k for a full respray on a car that needs a fair amount of welding etc seems like good value to me .
Get lots of quotes and really ask what they are going to do to stop the rust permanently .
