Does anyone know where I can get a compatible touch up paint (stick or spray) for the standard silver colour ? I've got a small scratch on the roof that just needs sorting. It's on the rear edge and almost out of sight so it doesn't warrant a professional job. Halfords have plenty of silver on the shelf but obvioulsy no Daihatsu stuff so if anyone knows the closest match, please let me know.
Paint codes for silver are: Daihatsu: S28 AKZO: DAHS28 Dupont: P6815 Glasurit: DAI-S28 Nexa: 2DFMB Spies: 88345 Standox: S28 Note: Your paint will have faded over the years. Use these as a guide, and maybe go a shade or two lighter. You might not care about getting an exact match seeing as it's on the roof.
I have used both an touch-up brush and a spray on my Silver Copen at different times. Despite buying the spray from two different on-line shops (ebay), I couldn't get it to match anywhere near close enough so that it wouldn't be seen - I ended up having to rub it back and go to a body shop get it sorted - even then, it isn't 100%. I have used a pen on some areas where it can't really be seen, just to protect the paint where there were some chips - on the door sills. Again, not a good match, but at least it protects the bare metal. As Number6 suggests, you will very likely see fade on the original paint. Is it not possible to polish the scratch out, and re-laquer?
Unfortunately it won't polish out as it's around 5x1mm. I think it's happened when the roof has come into contact with the felt on the rear of the boot (arround the latch). On mine, it's been stapled so I guess that a decent bump and the two have made contact at some point. Luckily mine is a late 2009 so the paint shouldn't have faded too much. I wish I'd spotted it when it was in for the other work as they matched the bonnet very well.
Worst comes to worst, a car painter will sort it out for you. They'll even feather out and use a matching paint to deal with the fade!
I have about 6 unused tins of S28 paint. I'm going to be spraying mine a totally different colour so more than welcome to them
Hi BarnsleyBob. PM me your address because i'm not sure if royal mail deliver spray paints or not so will have to try get the best delivery for you.
They don't, you might have problems there. You need a company that ships dangerous goods. DHL require an account, FedEx I can only find international shipping listed, TNT do domestic uk and don't say anything about an account. There's a few smaller companies if you google uk dangerous goods shipping but I'm not sure they'd be worth it for 1 can of paint, they look more like full pallet/van orientated.
I've just checked with Parcelforce website and they won't touch paint sprays either. @stickypinkyfinger - I'll try the Landrover forum as they do a lot of courier drops and see if that turns up trumps.
