Hi everyone - i had posted this previously but i think i maybe put it in the worng place - anyway, my 2005 55 plate 690cc Copen needs a service, the Daihatsu dealer wants £520 to do it, the local garage says £99......what do the dealers do that costs so much?? is it worth paying the £520 for whatever it is they do? when i asked, the guy listed things like oil change, filters plugs etc - nothing massive like cam belts, which is what i was expecting for that price - any help or advice on this one would be very much appriciated Ruth
dwayner I would use Toyota everytime, but i dont understand why its so expensive. thats like over 1,000 australian dollars? i pay 165.00 dollars for a service, and 580.00 for a major service which is like 100,000 km, 150,000 km and 200,000 km for them, but most time, i just do a simple oil and filter change, in accordance with what diahatsu recommened. Im assuming that high service cost is the UK?
could service costs here i suppose? but i had an Audi before, and servicing for that at an Audi dealer was nowhere near as expensive, so i am hoping someone will either explain why it is so much and convince me is worth it or tell me its a rip off and go to the local garage !!
Hi Ruth sounds like your dealer is trying to shaft you. Spark plugs are a little more expensive. I can't think work they would do to make the cost so high. The cambelt is a chain so doesn't need replacing. The £99 charge sounds too cheap to me. For a garage to do a full service: Plugs Air filter Oil filter Oil I would've thought a price of £200 would be closer. Below are prices for parts off eBay Air filter £18 Oil filter £14 Oil £30 Plugs £48 Add on the labour cost & I think you'll be close to that £200. Changing the oil filter is a pain, so the labour cost will depend on how easily they change it.
thank you - i've spoken to two dealers - one in Pershore one in Birmingham, both quoted over £500 - i thought they must be doing something special - magic oil or something!! - for that price - i want to look after the little thing, but not get ripped off in the process!! are you aware of any garages in the Midlands area who would do this at a reasonable price? or my husband can do it - he is currently out in the rain welding the exhuast the star - but otherwise its a garage just get the stamp really thank you agani
You don't need a specialist to service the Copen. Take a look at this website, put your postcode in & choose a mechanic near you with good reviews. http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk/ I'm in Worcester & found a Japanese car specialist through the site.
