I want to rust proof my 2008 1.3 just in case. The garage which serviced it 2 weeks ago said there is no sign of rust but who knows. A specialist rust proofing company has quoted £400 for full rust proofing including chassis and wheel arches. It this a fair price for work involved?
No problem ,just it will give you a ball park of what price the professionals charge and what to ask for
I reckon you're spot on with wanting to get it sorted before anything nasty shows up, Alidara. It's clear that Daihatsu, unusually for a Japanese manufacturer, did a properly poor job in preparing these little bundles of joy for what a British climate will throw at it. I was tempted by a full, professional job by a company in Peterborough, but ended up doing it myself (see this thread https://www.copenworld.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=535) as Adam shows how he did the job. The pics of the sorry state of my 59-plater are at the end and I was surprised at how much rot I found had started. So, yeah, depending on how keen you are to do it yourself versus how much you're prepared to pay to have it done professionally, I'd get it done sooner rather than later; statistically, after a mild but wild winter just gone, we may well be in for a dose of the white stuff ... and salt on the roads - your wheel arches are gonna hate that! Good luck and let us know how you get on!
Many thanks for the advice. I contacted http://www.waxoyltreatment.co.uk/ they want £390+VAT. I asked if they remove the bumpers and they said no! Can they do a good job without removing bumpers?
In a word, Alidara - NO! The plastic bumpers butt up against poorly protected steel and that's defo going to take a beating - check out the rust bubbles on the seams at the back of mine; without removing the bumpers we'd never have spotted that and been able to treat it. So, I'd say that removing the bumpers is a major part of the deal. Let us know what you choose to do.
Thank you JulesAtCumbria Now I have to find out someone who is prepared to to take the bumpers off. The search continues.
