I have a 54 plate 696 and have started to take it out after a winter break. Tried to open the roof but nothing happening. Any ideas fellow drivers? Any assistance would be welcome Thanks in advance Gary
Hi Gary, the roof-opening mechansism is very sensitive to a very good condition of the battery. Have you been charging the battery during winter break? Another common problem is dirt in the contact switch for the hand brake. If you pull the hand brake lever, does the red warning light show up? If not, clean the contact switch, which is located underneath the hand brake lever. There are some other possible causes, so please keep us updated. Andraes
Thanks for the reply I had been charging the battery and have now installed a new one , do you think this could have caused the problem and if so what would be the solution
If now, after installing a new battery, it works without problems I would think so. Next time during winter you might try one of this kind: http://www.ctek.com/gb/en They are quite popular with german Copen drivers and do a good job. But of course if the battery already is quite old, they cannot perform a miracle. Interesting read: http://www.ctek.com/gb/en/page/whycharge Andreas
dwayner - there is like a pull-out kinda like a roll out blind - that has to be clipped in correctly, or it wont work either.
Sticking quarterlight windows seem to cause a lot of problems. When you try to open the roof take a look at what actually happens. If the rear quarterlight windows don't go down the opening process cannot continue. The windows can get 'stuck' when the rubbers get sticky. If you 'bump' the glass with your hand while holding the button it will sometimes clear. Then you need to lube the seals carefully. Job done
If the roof is not working - assuming everything else is in order, I would check whether the boot is damp inside. After getting caught in some heavy rain, my wife noticed that the roof had stopped working - also the boot wasn't closing with the motor. There was plenty of water in the boot. We dried out the boot with cloths and left the car in the garage with the boot open for a few days to dry out. As if by magic, both the boot closing motor and the roof started working again.
