With the winter on it’s way, it going to be mostly ‘top up’ for a few months.

I know this is a bit of a daft question, but how much does your roof rattle? A dealer told me, if they are properly adjusted, they don’t rattle. Is this true?

My noise seems to come from the linkage that keeps the roof horizontal and is just above your ear when driving! It doesn’t rattle on motorways, but our local roads are a bit bumpier.

Also looking the ‘sockets’ front of the roof ‘locators’ they do seem to have a lot adjustment (big holes and small screws). Is there a recommended alignment procedure? I’ve noticed there is very little extra compression on the rubber seal when you engage the front catches.

    Any thoughts welcome.

I'm fortunate in that my roof doesn't seem to rattle at all, at least not yet.

Now as for the interior, that's a different matter. Plenty of rattles and squeaks there! It all adds to the charm ;)

I had a quick look in the Service Manual on the directory page but can't see anything relating to adjustments that can be made. Perhaps someone else has had the same problem and can advise?

    Thanks Andreas:),

The adjustment was easy. No tools. By turning the bar one just one flat, there is now a slight squeek from the rubber when the catch is engaged, before there was no movement or noise.

Now, I think I need a test drive..... (any excuse)

One point, I think 1) and 2) in the instructions are the wrong.
    Shouldn't it be:
    1) Put your roof UP
    2) Release the catch as if your roof is GOING DOWN

    Rex.

Hey, it worked! (Maybe I shouldn't sound so surprised)
Just driven into Cardiff along a concrete dual-carriageway (A4232). You know the ones, bump-bump bump-bump bump-bump. Roof sounds much better, hardly a murmur. :D

Thanks again. That tip alone was worth the joining fee.

What! You haven't been charged??

    Point taken Tringhenge,
But don't forget - I live in Wales - It's not the cold I'm worried about, it's that wet stuff - that we seem to have have more than our fair share of

Thanks for the tip. If there are no objections I'd like to add this to a library of "How To.." articles for the features page.

Ack, wet Wales! I feel your pain. Spent 5 days on Orkney and only got roof down once and that was May.

Best days were travelling through the Highlands, but of course the car was chockfull of luggage so no roof down :( Still, was amazed how much can be jammed into that boot - enough for a two week trip and some present space for holiday shopping. Only thing was the brewery trips meant shipping stuff home :D

This is a great tip - thanks very much.

Bought the car last week and this was the only thing that detracted from the enjoyment.

A genuine easy fix....once you know how.

    Thanks again

    Tightened my roof up too.
Also did the rubber thimbles on the roof location pins.
    Result, no more rattles.
    Great tips, thanks!

Just wondering if there's a specific direction to turn? I did mine but not really sure if it's in the right direction.. Should the paint mark be on the left or right side after turning the hexagon rod? And should both the side be in the same direction??

Sorry for asking (I'm not so smart!): rotation clockwise or anticlockwise and... more or less how many degrees? Thanks

Hi, I think clockwise to tighten the catches.
    Regards
