Hi Everyone, A couple on months ago the Copen (1.3) went in for its MOT knowing the right headlight bulb had failed and took the mechanics' offer to replace it whilst the car was in. Both headlight bulbs (in fact all front bulbs) were replaced with Bosch units to save the hassle of changing them too soon again. The garage made a pig's ear of it and said he had to remove the front bumper, which ended up with broken clips, missing bolts and mis alignment of the refitted bumper! A week later the same R/H main dipped bulb failed again, so this time took the car elsewhere, as I had to get my A/C compressor repaired, and the guys rectified all the issues the previous place had done with the bumper whilst replacing the bulb, and they also replaced the lightbulb with another Bosch bulb. All good, except a few days later the same bulb blew again! So, I presume I have an electrical or vibration issue with the O/S headlamp unit? I checked the alternator output whilst the car was just above idle speed, and it peaked at 14.49 volts. The battery prior to starting was showing 12.73volts. So just looking for any advice or suggestions before I take the car to an Auto electrician. Thanks all....
Just an update.... I can't believe how easy it was to replace the bulb! It took no more than 15 mins (less now that I know how to get to it) to do. I just jacked up the car using the scissor jack, wheel off and removed a couple of wing arch liner plugs, peeled back the front of the liner and immediately saw the cover the bulb sits behind. Unscrew that and unclip the spring holding the bulb in and replaced the bulb. (It was blown) I also checked the contacts which were clean and sprayed some contact cleaner on the connections. Why the garage saw fit to spend a couple of hours to remove the bumper (apart from handing over a pricey invoice) I don't know. They could have even made out they took it off and took it out through the wheel arch, but they certainly messed up the bumper. Anyway, having read various posts about the tricky bulb removal process, I'm just confirming that in my case it was actually very easy. I will monitor the bulb and see how long this one lasts.
