Last week I fixed my Copen's remote locking problem using advice from copenworld and a lot of sticky tape. This week the key fob snapped off my keyring and now I'm in constant fear of losing it. Can anyone recommend somewhere to get a reasonably priced replacement?

had the same, the plastic failed around the screw (and now taped together). Occasionally they come up on ebay, I don't know if they can be reset but you could swap your fobs internals into the fob you buy.

I think I will just tape mine together too. Thanks for the advice :)

Would the central locking one work for my 2004 copen? I have only ever had one manual key. Does it open the boot / petrol cap etc??
    Many thanks!

It isn't a key with built in Central locking buttons it's a completely separate fob. If you click the links above on ebay you'll see what the fob looks like. If you get a fob you can program it to operate your central locking. There are threads on here about doing this. The fob also opens the boot but not the petrol cap.
If you only have one key take it to Timpsons and they can clone it. They charged me £20 and the key works fine.

Thank you so much! Will I have to find a fob for a 2004 copen or will these on ebay mentioned above suit my car? Sorry to be a pain!

The local locksmith wants €70 for a spare for me! Astronomical difference!

The used fob at £30 seems good value being off a fairly recent car. I can't see how the fob from a 2009 car won't work with a 2004 car. Daihatsu won't have gone to the expense of making unnecessary changes to that part of the car when the main objective was the engine.

There is a thread on here that tells you how to program a replacement fob, second post down.

Is there a Timpson in your part of Ireland?

That's brilliant, thank you! I have one black key only - should I have a main one with a transponder in it or something, or is this small black key ok? Apparently the owner dropped the other one down a drain!
    Thank you for your help!

Turns out there is! I had assumed Timpson was a British thing, not available here. Will get a price on Monday and report back.

I think the black key is the main key.
When I bought my copen I only got one key with it which was grey. I found out this grey key wasn't the master key but for the purposes of cloning it didn't matter.
Most people would use the key that isn't the master key for every day use. So I reckon your seller dropped the grey key down the drain, the key which he used on a daily basis. That left him with just the black master key which you now have.
Get it copied at somewhere like Timpson and also buy a central locking fob off eBay and your car is complete.:)

45 Euro, half price to what I was quoted from another locksmith. Still a bit pricey, but I got one anyway.

I bought my key about 30 months ago and it was twenty quid. They said that was a limited time special offer but I noticed quite a long time later that the price was still twenty.
I tend to disbelieve when a shop says special offer assuming its a sales ploy to get you to buy there and then. Maybe the offer ended or prices are higher in Ireland.
Did your key have a protruding red bump in the middle with the initials of the manufacturer on it? Mine did it looked hideous but fell off after a few months of use, it now looks less tacky and aftermarket.

I would say the prices are higher in Ireland. 20 GBP is 25 EUR - 30 EUR at a push. 45 EUR is just being greedy, although, to be fair, it was still half the cost from a non-chain locksmith.

Yeah, it's that key with the red sticker thing and a MASSIVE transponder, which kinda scuppers my plan for an integrated key.

Get a pair of pliers and remove the red bump it will fall off anyway.
I'm not sure what you mean by a massive transponder and integrated key. The Timpson chip is inserted into a hole in the key end and then sealed with a red plastic plug. Which part is massive?

HI again! I did just that, so pleased with my Timpson key and my fob, the one you mentioned on ebay. It has three buttons, lock, unlock & boot, and has cobra written on the back. So the reset thread didn't work, but I am undeterred! I will replace the battery in case that is the problem, and search to see if I can find anyone out there who has reset a cobra fob at all??

Ah you have the cobra alarm option on your copen. In that case the eBay fobs will be no good.
Do a search for cobra alarms pairing the fob and receiver. The system that Daihatsu uk fitted to copens for owners who wanted an alarm was just a standard cobra alarm. Have a look on eBay at cobra alarms and compare your fob with those for sale. If you can find out the alarm model name or number you should be able to find out how to pair it.
Try the battery first though that's the most likely problem.

Sorry I seem to have misled you: the fob I bought from ebay from the 2009 model £30 quid - has cobra written on the back - I don't know what alarm I have on this car, if any. I was trying to pair this cobra one with my car!
Sorry to be so confusing :-(
