You know that ridiculous foot rest which only a Japanese ballet dancer wearing her shoes could use? That came out & I made a small footrest on the black plastic pedal-side where I can rest my clutch foot. I glued a thick right-angle plastic piece behind then built up a 15cm footrest of 2x1" (with some aluminium to make it wider - it was trial & error) in front of the supporting plastic & that black, sandy grip for stairs etc on the face. Sprayed it all in matt black, a very easy but excellent build. I find contact adhesive liberally applied & properly used works well. Next was the damned seatbelt. I sprayed it liberally with tyre shine so it would retract. Good, but it still tended to bunch up. So I put a piece of plastic over it & that solved the problem. I used velcro on the seat's seatbelt fitting so I can undo it to move the seat. Then I moved the seatbelt above the seat fitting as it was just too low. Again, built for average Japanese bloke. The bit of plastic I put in earlier holds it in place. Anyway, if these help anyone that's great. Now I'm off to take my Mum on a country drive & test my new boost controller, matched with my lovely turbo blow-off valve dump to atmo noise mod. PS: I was/am not really a knowledgeable turbo guy, so I'll post the boost controller mod, which before & after Dyno runs shows has increased power by 20-25% everywhere without stressing the engine & explain the [simple] process. I got a lot of help from marnob, a great member here & actually printed some of his suggestions to give to my tuners. Copens have special requirements for reasons I'll explain later and as I never see another Copen in Canberra, nor had they! Happy Copening, Brian
My fix for the seatbelt was pulling it all out as far as it would go and putting it into a bucket of warm water on the seat, leave it for a while then dry the belt. I also noticed that it is only really a problem for tall (or average sized depending on your perspective) since I have my seat forward and it never gets caught, but when my dad is in the car he moves the seat back and thats when the belt gets stuck. and as for the pedals, how did your factory foot rest look like? from the pictures the pedals look rubber? I'm just curious since mine has the optional aluminium pedals and I think the foot rest may be a different size or shape
No, the footrest was a small plastic/rubber thing like a door wedge, located on the firewall, well behind the clutch. Mine has factory standard pedals, same as yours, but the footrest is completely different. I couldn't even get my foot between the clutch & firewall tunnel, it was just ridiculous. My new small footrest sits just above the clutch. It's not ideal as it's narrow but it's the best fix I could come up with. I'd say that I got the crappy footrest because Australia got completely stock Japanese Copens & that's what they had. Maybe for UK/Europe they got the engineers to work out a proper one. As for the bunching, I have my seat pretty far back, although I'm only 176cm, so not tall. It used to up bunch like a bastard every time. The tyre shine & plastic over the top fixed that. Then I realised I could run the seatbelt above the plastic guides on the side for better comfort. I have the steering wheel adjusted (very slightly, thanks Daihatsu) fully up & out as that thing is really low, as in scrape your legs low. I'm enjoying the extra power from my little TurboSmart, it has totally transformed the driving experience. My first L/100km test returned 7L/100 which is about 0.4 lower. It was just one 300km test so it's not statistically valid. Taking into account that I've been driving it much more lately, because of the new feel, thus maybe not driving economically, it might dip below 7/100 next time. I usually do car-bike at 30-70% but that's been reversed lately. I just had a city wide night drive (where I crossed the border twice) from the hospital again, roof down, destroying roundabouts as I went, despite it already being -3deg. Woollen beanie, leather driving gloves & the heater on max! I didn't buy it to spend my time in a tiny aluminium box! Well, not every cold night anyway. But it's going back into the garage for 5 days as I'm going to Sydney for 3 nights on Wednesday & I'll use the bike until then. Every second week I try to get out of Canberra for a few nights. With covid, I can get my ideal 4-star Art Deco Heritage hotel for 60 Australian pesos per night & I get 1st class on the train half price for 40 pesos each way, with half the seats covid empty, so why not? Due to my feet I get seat 1, as it has more legroom & a fixed table for my tablet/minicomputer & stuff. Cheers AFRON, B
...."Cheers AFRON, B" Note to self, read more carefully. Sorry mate! You were correct about the pedals, they are rubber with a metallic pattern stamped on or whatever. Your Copen definitely has a larger footrest but my foot in boots will literally not fit between the clutch & the firewall. Hence my "one-off" footrest but it does the job I'm loving the 14.8PSI boost controller, the turbo blow off noise, the engine just sounds happier. Now I don't have to concede to Golfs and highway over-taking on our dodgy country roads is much easier & less dangerous. Cheers AFRON, Brian
