Hiii! I'm Steph & I’ve joined because I have an undying love for copens :p
I haven't got one yet but I’m on the hunt for a copen of my own so I can love it, hug it and squeeze it :)
This will be my first car so can anyone tell me the pros and cons? I’ve read loads of reviews so I have a vague idea but it would be good to hear from the owners

    Thanks!!

Hi Pinkie, Welcome to the forum.
Will you be looking at the 660 or 1.3 engine?

Either really! I've been browsing around the internet and I will admit I have falled in love with the 1.3 champagne, but originally I was looking for a yellow 660 but to be honest I don't care any more I want them all!! which would you reccomend? this is my first car and I think im going to keep it forever :p

I'd get some theoretical insurance quotes before you choose. There might be a big difference in affordability between the 660 and the 1300. My first car was a Triumph Spitfire convertible, 1500cc engine, and the insurance cost more than the car (although I was a bit younger than you are now).

Okay, so what sort of mileage will you be doing per year?
With the 660 engine you need to change the oil every 3000 miles. Oil filter every 6000 miles.
If your doing long distances it would be best to go for the 1.3.

It would be interesting to see what difference the two engine do to the insurance costs.
If you base your decisiion on fun. Go for the 660 engine. It is a bit slower, but it revs higher & sounds great.
When you go out looking at potential purchases. Good service history is essential. Make sure the oil changes have been done regularly. Also check for rust on the rear arches & front edge of the sill (just behind the front wheel).

How come your insurance is so high there?
I pay 55 dollars a month - for 100% coverage, with no additionals - it seems insane to be that much in the UK

New, young drivers in the UK get screwed on insurance costs.
I'm surprised by Pinky's quote. I would've guessed at quote of about £1200.

I'm not surprised by the quote at all, having a niece and nephew in the "new driver" range, I know what it's like. Hope this article helps you get on the road, then you can get some no-claims under your belt and get something you love in a few years.

Yeah so do I! I really didn't expect it to be that high!! that was only on compare the market so its not exact but its still REALLY shocked/upset me!!
Its such a shame because I feel that I am a good driver its just other people who ruin it for everyone else :(
Ive still got my heart set on getting a copen I will get one somehow... even if I just buy it and sit in it on the drive :p

I know they will but its still pretty rubbish haha, i'm looking into maybe getting a classic beetle.. low insurance and you don't need to pay for road tax.. bit worried about the lack of power steering and ABS but I guess it will just take some getting used too.... :(
