After having the wheels refurbed thought a new set of nuts were in order, just my luck asked and phoned everywhere for a set for a copen, Nothing......but....... Guess what nuts fit perfectly from another make,£12 for the 16 as well
Dinkys new wheels Wheels were refurbed by sprayshack bodyworks based nr Dunmow Essex, Wheels were blasted, rubbed down, three primer coats applied, Base coat was a one off mix of graphite grey(Shaun the painter added colours to the mix untill he had it right in his own mind),three coats applied. Then he busted the outer rims five times with ground glass chrome paint untill he had the desired effect. Four coats of high gloss lacquer later(including flattening between each coat) He charged me £60 per rim and has kept enough paint aside with my name on it to do the wheels at two times more,if i get any damage he will retouch the rims for £15 each. And the wheel nuts are from a MX5,perfect fit and from my local dealer an amazing price of £12 for 16
Thanks very much - sounds brilliant! They look brilliant too! Thanks for alerting me to this. And the wheel nuts...... I'll remember that one! Cheers Kevin
If it's any help, I recently bought some genuine Daihatsu chrome wheel nuts while I was in Jakarta... Part number is 90049-11063 (described as "Nut, Hub") and is the standard wheel nut used on all the Daihatsus sold in Indonesia (Copen is not sold there). Cost was 11,000 Rupiah (73 pence) each. According to the packaging, they were made in Japan. I don't know whether UK Daihatsu dealers can order the same parts with the part number? They are very slightly longer than the originals - so they do stand out from the face of the wheel by a couple of millimetres - but they look soooo much better. Also, the hex size is the same, so the original wheel spanner still works. I fitted them last week - and I'm still waiting for the memsahib to notice them - we spent a whole week earlier in the year looking for chrome wheel nuts.
if someones looking for a set of wheels there's a refurbed set on ebay for £360 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Daihatsu-...s_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item43af059f28 I thought about it but the ebay ones are darker and I'd prefer a set in the original silver (may just get mine refurbed if I can be without the Copen for a while).
standard silver Just for reference Sprayshack have said that for standard silver the cost is approx £30 per rim depending on damage and corrosion
£30 sounds v good. Website of place near me says 'From £55 plus vat'. Most things seem more expensive in Hampshire
I am getting all 4 wheels done at the end of this month - £135 incl vat for 4. The company is Inspraytion in north Kent (Medway) They shot blast them and take them right back and then recoat - any colour! I have a green Copen - I was wondering wht it would look like with very dark dray or black wheels Any thoughts?
How about very very, almost black green-metallic? You know, a complete green car! Gold is great too, but then they should be real Minilites IMO. Mat black maybe and chrome lug nuts maybe those from the last MR2/Celica... Edit: These lug nuts are pretty expensive I've heard.
As I'm so use to the standard copen wheel being a polished silver colour. Any other colour would look a bit odd. I try to bodge some sort of photoshop image with the colours you fancy to see what it looks like. If in doubt stick with the standard silver. Can they do black chrome effect?
Any colour you like? We were told to get nailvarnish colour cards? It's amazing what paints are out there, some of them at a cost though
Thanks guys - I will look into it - and thanks for all your suggestions. I have a few weeks to decide - but I might play safe and go for the standard silver Kevin
dwayner although this is off topic, i got an email from Australia's leading Motoring expert Paul Gover, who travels all over the car-world, and has a regular segment on advice on radio 3AW. Hes very respected, and i listen to him all the time, So i wasnt happy to learn from him, that the Copen is unlikely to have collectability status in Australia - and if i loved it, i should keep it.
