About this time last year the BBC got in touch with KKITP HQ asking questions about Kei's for a new series presented by Top Gears James May. The team at KKITP kindly helped the researchers with information about Kei cars for the show. The new series "James May's Car of the People" is starting this Sunday: Sunday 10 August at 9pm on BBC Two and BBC Two HD (for those in the UK). Here's the BBC advert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVV_1fMRJiE Check out at 0:08 for a nice Red Copen & some sort of Suzuki.
They seem to be going chronologically, so the Copen may be near the end of the series, I still enjoyed it though, apart from I never like to see a car dropped from a helicopter :-((
James May downsizes to explore the weird world of the microcar. He discovers how austerity and fears of congestion led to European tragicomic disasters in the shape of Britain's infamous three-wheelers, French death traps and German absurdities. James takes to the battlefield to settle one of the greatest rivalries in car history and travels to Japan for an urban race between a state-of-the-art micro sports car and the bestselling vehicle in history.
they talked it up - described it as a mini sports car that can do 118mph - not sure i'd like to try that with mine. on the down side they never mentioned that they made it to the uk - that might have spurred some impulse purchases and described the roof as removeable - as opposed a foldable hard top.
or moveable the standard turbo model couldn't do 118 mph! the 1.3 cannot even do that. Not that I've tried.
The Copen in red looks fantastic. I want one ! Did the 1.3 model only come in silver ?, I cant see to find a 1.3 in any other colour?
Four colours available for the 1.3: Shining Red Metallic Champagne Metallic Silver Metallic Steel Grey
Buzz was singing his little heart out at 100 mph in September last year as we were on our way down to meet all the other Kei Kars We got a LOT of very strange looks from BMW Mercedes Jaguar et al drivers. He had something more to give, but not a lot. So the 108 mph quoted as a maximum sounds a reasonable figure to me. Still, it's not about the maximum speed. Give me a twisty, bumpy fast country road any day PhillandLin and Buzz.
