Hi - Just registered today- my wife and I are looking to buy a Copen 1.3 as we have fallen in love with them! We have looked at a couple already so now feel we know what we want -- which is a late model 1.3, with red leather upholstery and ideally in Grey with excellent condition bodywork/alloys/upholstery and low mileage - we're not asking for much are we?!! We would appreciate any suggestions from anyone around knowledge of dealers who regularly have Copens or if any members are looking to sell or know of one which may be coming up for sale. I have already contacted London Daihatsu at Hendon and a garage in Ipswich (Cattermoles I think it was). Anyway I look forward to any ideas you might have. All the best Dave
Where abouts are you based? I got my grey 1.3 fron Woodford Motors in Woodford Green (bottom of the M11). They normally have a couple in stock although I haven't been past recently. Cattermoles in Ipswich have been really helpful since I got my Copen and know what they are talking about but I haven't seen many cars here recently. Good luck in your search!
Thanks Clare - just spoken to Woodford Motors - none in stock at present but I will keep an eye on their web site. Dave
A bit of a hike for you to view it but........ http://www.dacemotorcompany.co.uk/used-daihatsu-manchester-stockport Should have added - hi DaveM.
Yeah there's a grey 1.3 on eBay in Essex so not too far from Hertfordshire. Which part do you live in? My brother lives in Hertfordshire in a little village called Flamstead. Village of the year a few years back apparently.
Thanks all for the advice - we are not keen on the stripes on the Essex one! Will keep looking and update if we find one Dave
Also got a grey 1.3 about a month ago. Was a bit higher mileage than we hoped for and had some little scratches and marks but it was a good price considering, and more importantly had none of the rust problems we had viewed on some newer and much more expensive Copens. In the end it took about 5 weeks of looking and a 900 mile round trip to get the right car. eBay, pre-loved, auto trader, pistonheads and gumtree were the places to look.
We got Palmdale Car Finding Service to do the donkey work for us. They search, go and check out potential purchases, negotiate a good price, and then fetch and deliver. It does cost a few hundred quid but with us both working full time, made it all easier. In the end, the car we bought was only 40 miles away, but it could equally have been in Edinburgh.....
The Copen I bought originally had stripes on it but the previous owner had them removed & the paint work polished due to how many people were asking how easy it was to remove them when he had it advertised for sale. Bonus for me really as saved me a job. I was one of the people who emailed him to ask how easy it was to take them off. Apparently you just use a hair dryer... That would have been a sight me out on the street without a hair on my head hair drying a little yellow car I'm sure if the one in Essex is a trade sale you could haggle them to bear the cost of removal.
Update!! Should be picking one up this week - grey on a 58 plate with 15k miles. Thanks Quibbles - used Palmdale - very helpful as you say when you're busy. Looking forward to it!
Great spot! Welcome Dave - I'm new too having bought mine on Nov. 1st! Yours is the one in Farnham isn't it? Great car, great mileage! Hope it looks totally tidy when you get there. Enjoy your first drive!
Hi Brought mine off ebay too! So defo a good place to look. These cars are great fun. Make sure the wheel arches are rust free, can be costly to repair. Make sure all the electrics work, especially the roof, should be smooth. Check footwells for dampness. Good luck with buying. Welcome to Copen Club) Ps, Must have FSH.
