I need a new turbo but don't want to pay £1200 the dealer quoted... Also, need a manual & does the engine have to be removed to do the job????

    Hi Jo,
The engine dosen't need to come out, but most of the front will. Bumper, air box, intercooler.
Not much choice turbo wise. Your only option is to get a second hand unit.
    They are like hens teeth.

Both of these are at about £150.
Let's say it costs £100 to import including taxes & fees. A used turbo gor £250 has got to be worth a punt.
I searched for L880k (engine number, you'll see it in your vin number) turbo.
These turbos appeared in the search.
Obviously you'll need to check the condition & suitability with the seller.

You'll need a middle man to bid on Yahoo auctions & handle the delivery for you. They'll also be able to check things with the seller.

Cut & past the Japanese into a translator, that'll help confirm things.

I can suggest an importer if your interested.

JUst out of curiosity, since a lot of people here seem to have had or need a new turbo - can you drive the car whenthe turbo has failed? or is it off the road until you get a new one fitted? Is it something that is going to ground you until you get another one? Its is about 4000 dollars ive heard to get one done in australia. i was thinking of getting one direct from japan, in case i need it in the future

When the intercooler pipe came off my turbo there was just no power at all.
    The car was very slow.
