Does anyone know if you can remove the heat shield from the 1.3 exhaust manifold without removing all the front end?

I guess you can crush it up, but would then want to put it back on.

I imagine its put on the engine before its lifted up into place.

I couldn't work out what you meant by crush it up so I've had a look and can see what you mean now.
The black front cross member is held in place by five bolts, you could try removing them and see if you can lift and pull the cross member out a little to make room to remove the shield. The radiator etc should be able to be left in place if you only move the CM out a little way on the left side as you look at it.
Why do you want to remove it?

O looked at that cross member support and it seemed too integrated with everything else like bumper, lights etc and it would be a major job.
Why? to see what the manifold looks like, I've only seen turbo ones on ebay. I want to see if its a poorly designed cast one and if a tubular steel one would be worth it.
