The Japan Electric Vehicle Club has set a new world record for the longest distance travelled by an electric vehicle on a single charge.

The Mainichi Daily News reports that the specially adapted version of the Mira covered an impressive 555.6km from Tokyo to Osaka.

Although the vehicle needed 360kg of batteries to achieve this feat, it does at least demonstrate the continuing development of more environmentally friendly methods of travel.
