    Hi.
The garage I work for recently took one of these cars in as a part-exchange.
We Checked it over, and all seemed good.
    So we sold it.

We and the new owner are in a major disagreement about how the boot lid should close.

I read the owners manual, and it says words to the effect of ‘gently push the lid closed from 8-10 inches.’
So I close the boot to 8-10 inches, and then gently push down on it. Is closes the rest of the way.
    It then automatically latches shut.

The new owner expects to close the lid to 8-10 inches and then for the boot lid to close automatically on it’s own.

What is the normal correct functionality for the self locking boot lid?

    Hi,
It is exactly as you say. Close the boot to a few inches, and then gently push down on it. Is closes the rest of the way.
    It then automatically latches shut.

I shut mine to nearly closed then, when I feel increased resistance gently push down on it in the middle with the flat of my hand to get it to auto latch.

It doesn't close on its own.

Bring the Boot lid down gently and let it rest. Push it down once, release and the car will do the rest.
You will hear the motors click and lock down the boot automatically?

You have to press it to the first level of resistance and the motors do the rest.

Yeah, thats fine but I prefer not to let the boot slam down on the seals and locks.
If you let it rest, then just give it gentle push you don't need to let it slam down?
Just like these people who let the bonnet slam down or the doors on stops and locks?
    Really?

I agree. A gentle push until the latch takes over. The only caveat is to use the flat of your hand to spread the pressure. And don’t use a ring finger !

Having said that, it’s nearly always best to let a bonnet drop rather than pushing it against the safety and main latch. Mate has just had his bonnet blow open in lane 3 and needed new underwear.
