    Hi all,
Glad to be here on this forum.

I recently purchased a Daihatsu Copen (2005) Jap import. I love the car. Super cute and great fun, but I know absolutely nothing about them.
I have never owned one before and bought it on a whim off ebay.
The car drives fine and seems like a decent purchase but there is a fault with the roof mechanism.
Basically it all works except the roof itself. The windows go down and the boot opens, but the roof won't budge. I an hear the pump/motor running but it won't operate the roof. The boot will go back down again and the light goes off. So I am just wondering if anybody has any advice?
Do you think the pump is not powerful enough to operate the roof? The boot works fine.
    Or maybe an air-lock?
There was no fluid in the system when I bought the car so I topped it up and the boot worked instantly. Just can't get the roof to operate.
If I drain the fluid the roof can be operated manually very easily so I know it isn't seized.

I really want this car up and running properly because it is such an adorable little vehicle so I really would appreciate any help.

    Many thanks

    Hi Elliot

Did you get a handbook with the car as it has a lot of information regarding the operation of the roof? These cars have a small battery so it is advisable to run the engine while you operate the roof. This ensures that there is plenty of electrical power distributed around the car. The ECU is very sensitive to this and will switch off certain operations if the ECU deems there is not enough power to complete the task. If these cars are left stationery for long periods batteries will fail so they must be kept on a trickle charge. The roof can only be opened manually by two people. It is quite a delicate operation as there are quite a number of steps to take. The hydraulic system, provided it has no leeks is normally very good, but if left unused for quite a period of time they can become a bit lazy. You will be able to down load a workshop manual and other useful information from the ‘Resources’ section of this site after you have been a member for a time. There are many members in this club who know a lot about the running of these cars so please stick with it. What model & engine size is yours colour etc.? We always welcome new members.

    Hi Guzziman,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I have still had no joy with the roof operation.
I have even fitted a replacement pump and motor but still have the same issue. Everything works fine until the roof section is supposed to fold back, but that never happens. I can hear the pump and motor working but it just doesn't operate the roof section.

However, I have been getting some serious fluid leaks in the boot section now so have a strong impression this has a lot to do with it.

The fluid was initially coming from the reservoir itself on the old pump unit. The replacement unit doesn't do this. But recently fluid has been spraying out of one of the hydraulic line connections to the pump unit.
Basically I think the banjo bolt is the incorrect one and isn't creating a good seal.
Does anybody know where I can get 5he correct replacement bolts from?
