Hi everybody, this is my story : Last year I bought my Daihatsu Copen 0.7 RHD and during the winter I decided to do a full mechanically maintenance. New sparqplugs, changed oil (incl. gearbox), Modified Airfilter, New turbo (costs more than 500 euro), new belt's etc. I re-did the interior to tidy up everything, the leather is perfect! No cracks etc. Added a double din radio, got hold on original floor mats. Sounddampend the doors and added a compo speakers in the doors. Cleared all logo's and put a new battery in it. Installed new front dampers + new coils front and back incl. 2 a 3cm lowering the car. (450+ euro's) Bought new rims, 15 inch from Borbet and with new tyres. (750+ euro's) The engine runs perfect, its fast and the sound is great with the new intake. Airco, roof everything runs smoothly. Okay, now it comes : I knew it had some spots in the paint. Last week I decided to investigate. Please check the pictures. The "rustmonster" has done allot of damage. I do not have the possibility to weld, so for me it seems that this project has come to an end. This is not the only spot, front left has also an spot but it's small. The back left is still not investigated, front right is good! I am now investigating the possibilities of selling the car in total or to break it down into pieces. I have investigated allot of money into the car, probably allot will be lost. I am trying to do some damage control of my wallet The Engine has run 98K miles, Turbo is new! Technically the car is perfect everything works as it should be, only the body is..... MOT/APK is still valid until the first of May, its drivable. The car is based in the Netherlands (near Zwolle) For more pictures or questions, please contact me by email. Please let me know what you need and give me your offer. I will send you a detailled picture and I can ship it.
You've done a lot of work. So sorry to hear you'll probably have to break it. What air filter did you end up going with? I like the look of it. Your seats look awesome also.
Hi David, I have created my own air filter setup. Made of a steel tube, custom carbon fix plate and a small airfilter. It fits perfectly. The reason why I made it myself is that the asian parts are way to expensive in my opinion.
Looks really nice Stanley. What is the steel tube from? I agree I've looked at the filters on yahoo japan and they want $400 CAD!! Ridiculous.
It would be a waste of time, money and effort when selling the Copen! Are you maybe interested to have the rust damage repaired for an attractive low price in The Netherlands? This is not commercial but as a hobby and to help you keeping the Copen.
Wow Jan, I would like to hear your thoughts about this since I would like to keep it. But in general the feedback that I have received is that is beyond the interest of repairing...
Thanks Stanley. I'll looking into building one. What air filter did you go with? If I were you I'd try to save the car. It's a beautiful little car.
hello, is the car still for sale? or do you sell it for parts? Thank you Patrick from Belgium my mail is nouxx58@hotmail.com
If you decide to go ahead and sell the car for parts I would be interested in the air filter system please!
