Are the rear wheel arches another rust trap?

I'd like to broaden a brief but very useful conversation I had with RoGer on Sunday.
It seems to me that as water collects at the foot of the rear wheel arches, they must be another rust trap and I wonder if anyone has a solution. Cheese portion shaped blocks might help, as might drilling holes to let the water escape.
    Any other suggestions?

Hi, unfortunately the whole car attracts rust. I have literally stripped down the car , removed back and front bumpers and wheel arch guards etc and sanded down and treated the rust and sprayed stone chip guard and under seal . I would just treat and keep areas free of mud etc

Those little traps are always collecting gravel and mud on my car. I try and keep them clean but it looks like a design fault to me. I sprayed some black sealant stuff in mine but it still looks like there's traces of rust starting on the metal edges.

I like your work - Building up the space to let the water overflow looks like a great idea
