Air intake hole.

    Hi,

    Is the hole in the air intake, see photo, meant to have a tube or some other gubbins attached? This is on the 1.3 engine.

    Just had a look at my 1.3 and its identical to yours. Just a hole there which seems a bit strange.

    Thinking about it the hole is on the air intake side and not after the air filter so it doesn't matter really. All it will do is draw a little warm air from the engine compartment as well as the air it takes in from the front of the car.

    yes mine is the same, well was when it was fitted.

    I've got 3 guesses why it is there:
    1) it reduces induction suck noise
    2) being soft rubber and thin it prevents the hose sucking itself in and reducing air flow. Especially as its not circular. The flat sides will be the weak points.
    3) observation window for technicians to watch air flow during a service!
