Daihatsu has announced the 2019 Copen Coupe. With limited production of just 200 cars, the new model has a fixed roof made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic and a rear glass hatch. There are black and tan leather interior options.
Thats cool, but I will never be able to buy that car due to the fact that daihatsu has left the european market 6 years ago. Importing one would be a pain, also considering that you cannot get ANY spare parts for the JDM models here. I think the blue and white one is just the regular model, isn't it?
Yes, sorry, I uploaded the wrong photo - I've now removed the blue and white one and replaced it with the correct photo!
Doesn’t look like a Copen any longer! The classic lines of the original cannot be equalled in my view
It reminds me off a number of classic British cars but I can't decide which one it's most like. The whole appeal of the copen for me was it was a convertible so I wouldn't be interested in a coupe. It's a shame there are no new, or very few, copens in the UK because I'd buy another if I could get one newer than 2009. When I had mine it was a late one, 2008, and it already at 6 years old had signs of corrosion in the alloy body panels. I really liked the car and miss the thing but if I bought another I'd want it newer than what is generally for sale today.
The alloy corrosion is one of the things I would worry the least about. Real rust in places you cannot see is much more frightening
The name doesn't make any sense anymore. Copen was a combination of the words compact and open, and since the coupe isn't open anymore, it's now just a co without the pen. I still think it looks very nice though. Kinda reminds me of the Alfa 4c
Rust in hidden places can be repaired and because it's out of sight you can't see the repair. Corrosion of the alloy, while you won't get holes appearing damages the paintwork and is expensive to fix. My Copen had paint blisters on the roof and other alloy panels even though the paintwork hadn't been previously damaged to allow water to reach the aluminium. The build quality of the cars was poor which is a shame. They weren't suitable for a UK type climate. Not as bad as earlier Lancias and Fiats but still an off put when thinking of buying.
Nobody will repair your tiny car in europe, if you buy it.... you can`t even buy new nos special parts for an 0,7 anymore.. think, in 5 years is deadend for use fulldays. Never the rost, parts.. lot of cars goes over 100000 km
Following on from this I'm surprised we haven't had an announcement regarding the new Toyota Copen GR recently unveiled by Toyota in Japan.
