Hello, my wife bought a lovely little copen last week, it's perfect other than the wet boot . Seems to be a common problem with the brake light gasket. Does anyone know if a new gasket is available. Our nearest dealer is around 100 miles away. Thanks

I think the middle brake light gasket is a common fail point.
However I did read that a guy on the German Copen site was still have a leak issue after fixing the middle brake light seal. Turned out the panel seals between the two sheets of metal were not very good. It was the joint behind the brake lights where the wing joined to the rear panel. Water was getting into to the boot through the gaps. He re-sealed the joint & everything was okay. I think this is a rare occurrence though.

i'm thinking if there is such a common problem with the orginal design and quality of seal then theres no way i would be putting the same thing again back in, especially at that price.

I fixed mine with polyurethane windscreen sealant in place of the gasket. Will never leak again and used about a quid's worth of sealant.

If you've already bought a replacement seal it wouldnt do you any harm to put a light coating of sealant on it.

I wonder if MR2 owners have the same issue, as the brake light is common to both?

Wasn't to sure if it was the engine bay or a small storage area/ boot space. Either way it would be interesting to know if they leak?

£32.00 for a light seal is just silly money, will get a better price sorted.

The only problem with using other sealants is some might react with the paint work, so be careful. Polyurethane sealant is a good choice.

    Hello everybody,

I bought my car in july 2013. A few days later, I observed that some tools in the trunk were "rusty". The trunk was dry (we were in summer) but ?
Clean it and everything was OK until this winter.
Unfortunatly, my little Copen had to sleep outside most of the time (don't tell that to SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO COPEN :-(().

And I get water in the trunk !
I read the forum and found a lot of reasons  So I checked the seal of the trunk lid, and I must admitt that I have to replace the middle brake light seal.
So I took the tools to dismantle it: two bolts, nothing to do... And I observed that the nuts were not tighten
Before I dismantled the light, I decided to tighten (very slightly) these two nuts :)
After some weeks (because carpets were a bit wet) I could confirm that every thing is dry now and no more humidity in the car :D
May be this can be usefull to some of us
