Has anyone have some used pads that they have replaced due to wear. I would need 2 for to carry out a system to clean the inside area of my brake discs that are starting to corrode. At MOT tester told me I was too gentle with the brakes. I will reply to this forum of results. Will be using the system that Mercedes use on the rear discs on their 190 models. Will send SAE If anyone can help.
You shouldn't need to change the pads to scrub the discs. Just apply copious amounts of gas pedal followed by a sharp stab on the stop pedal. Repeat a few times. You won't do any harm to your pads. In fact it might break up some glazing which you're likely to have if you are sparing with the brakes.
When you get badly corroded areas, the pads will not clean it. And if they do the disk material will be a mess. First I take the corroded disk off, then batter all the rust off it with a hammer - it chips away. Then I put said knackard disk either on a lathe, of if its on a fwd car I do it on the car. Then while it is spinning either by turning the lathe on or running the engine with it in 4th gear. I take an angle grinder to the corroded area and clean it back, then I use a flap disk to get a proper finish. Then I sand back the original pads to re form the flat face. Then go an drive it to make sure it contacts the pad evenly. I wouldn't do this to a customers car, I would just put a new pair of disks on it. But I do this to my own disks or close mates who know the score.
