OK, my car runs standard 15" rims with standard 165/50 tyres.

I love the cars handling but am willing to compremise it a little with some fatter tyres to aid a bit more ride comfort!

Just wondering if anyone else out there has tried different tyre sizes on standard rims?

What I'm really asking is whats the tallest/ widest I can go before I start limiting the turning circle/ rubbing the arches? How much extra ride comfort could I experience?

Is it also a possibility that by going bigger & wider I'd be making a saving by using a more common tyre size??

    Food for thought!

If you want it more comfortable, buy a cushion to sit on. :D

I think changing the tyre size will give you a false reading on your speedo.

I thought I read somewhere on another forum, that Copens for the 'home' market have a softer ride. I think this is done by changing the springs / shocks not tyres.

Also if you change the rims / tyres most insurance companies treat this as a modification and insurance cost can go up - so may not be a cost saving. ;)

Regarding Adams comment on the speedo, I'm convinced Copens like most cars these days- the speedo overreads by about 10% - (Compared to three GPS units, it does.) So increased diameter tyres may make it more accurate

    Why do they do that??

Sorry Andrew, you were really asking about wider tyres, so this has been of no help to you. :p

    Tire sizes

    Hi all

I have just purchased my 2006 1.3 Copen. The previous owner installed 175/50 R15 in the front and 195/45 R15 in the rear. What I have noticed Is two things...
    • The rear (195/45 R15) tyres show marks on the outside that they touch the fenders.
    • If all four tires are inflated anything above 200 kPA (2bar) my ride becomes VERY stiff and bumpy. If I keep the tyre pressure at 200 kPA (2bar) the ride is more comfortable.

I have visited a couple of tyre supplies to find out what is the one tyre size that I can use for all four wheels.....?:think:

    copen came with tyre size: 165 / 50 R15 / 73V
    when they became rare,
    i switched to tyre size: 173 / 50 R15 / 75V (brand i bought was silverstone)

they are a good fit, havent had any problems in 2 years with them - they have a slightly thicker tread, so they last longer, and the best part - they are about 30% cheaper...

Goodyear now produce a 175/50 15! and they are cheap. The grip is around equivilent to the original bridgestones.
