Rushmere, Trust you are OK? Earthquake hit pretty bad, awaiting to hear on aload of workmates! Their building took it quite hard, so we have been told. As I say, trust you are OK? Thoughts are with you and the good peoples of NZ Best Lotuseater.
The earthquake is terrible, with many dead and injured, plus widespread damage. Aftershocks are still occurring, and it must be terrifying for those living in the direct area. Fortunately for me, I'm up in Auckland, so a long way from the devastation. However, thank you to everyone who has contacted me to check all is OK. Our thoughts are with all of those directly affected. The search and rescue operation is still continuing, and lets hope that more of the trapped people will be recovered alive.
My son and his girlfriend are on holiday on the south island at the moment. I know they were in the Christchurch area about 2 days ago. I think they've moved on but I still haven't managed to get in touch. I feel for the people effected by this tragedy. M.
There are still a lot of power outages in the area, so some emails are failing, and the phone networks are still struggling. I'm sure you'll get in touch soon - let us know when you get some news.
My son phoned at 04.30 this morning. He had been out of mobile, radio and internet coverage. I was so glad to hear from him I didn't mind getting wakened. M.
Sad day - have just had the news that our Christchurch office suffered a total collapse and we lost 3 of our colleagues. Prayers are with everyone that has suffered due to this diaster.
I'm very sorry to hear that. There are 166 known deaths so far, and that number is expected to rise to around 200. Many thousands have lost their homes. For anyone interested in supporting the people of Christchurch, donations can be made via the NZ Government appeal site here.
