Just heard today, don't know how true it is, but when the government do away with paper tax discs in October you will not be able to sell your vehicle with tax still on it? Apparently the reason given is that with no paper proof of the vehicle being taxed it will prevent you driving your new vehicle under the misconception that it is taxed when the previous owner had in fact been refunded the tax. Also it is to prevent you driving without insurance in your new vehicle as you obviously need insurance to tax it? Seems to me that this is just another government ploy to fleece drivers, as many wont bother to reclaim tax and in some cases when you sell a vehicle mid month it will be taxed twice for the same month? Hope I'm wrong and maybe someone can correct me?
Haven't heard that but sounds about right. Thought we were making progress with doing away with paper discs. This sounds like a few steps back though.
There was a chap interviewed on the radio who has a large collection of tax discs. Sounds a bit dull but I was fascinated but I do need to get out more
I've got about 9 discs in the glove box of my Astra he can have! I don't know why I can't throw them away. Guess it's because they cost so bleedin' much!
martyndh - yep they tried to accuse me of road tax doubling when i bought my tax at the post office. ridiculous stupid stuff in my eyes as obviously i had to drive it without road tax between buying the new one. i mean really LE SIGH!
I think it will be better, here's why... 1 - The paying of this tax is a separate argument, but as all have to, the actual tax discs are anachronistic and not necessary. 2 - I think that things stuck on the windscreen, including tax discs and the annoying advert for the garage the car was purchased from simply look messy. 3 - Tax discs have to be displayed on all vehicles including motorcycles - it is so easy to pinch the tax disc off a motorcycle with it not having an enclosed windscreen and nearly all tax disc holders being exposed and simple to unscrew, often by hand.
yeah i think its stupid with getting rid of the tax disc... because when you think about it its basically like a receipt and you know when and how long its taxed till... without it in the windscreen if someone said to you when do you need to tax it next ? you'll say "i dunno coz theres no tax disc in the window anymore" and also its true about non transferred tax to new owners and i think the only REAL reason for this is more money coz people who buy a used car now have to tax it... not good
I may even print my own with a copenworld logo i think.... otherwise I am never going to remember when to tax the car.
do you think you could get replica's tax disc where you could put the date in yourself say by pen ect ?
