I need to install Daytime running lights on my copen for inspection purposes. I'm just going to use a simple relay to power the lights but I'm having trouble finding the headlight wiring under the dash. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Wire colour? location? thanks
In the resources section on this site is a workshop manual and it contains wiring diagrams for everything. Anyway, heres the ones I think you need.
For what it’s worth, I used a voltage detection switch, which just detected the increased battery voltage when the engine’s on, to control my daylight running lights. It made the fitting of the lights fairly straightforward and avoided any changes to the core wiring. They are fairly cheap affairs, I got mine on eBay, perhaps worth a look to see if they are suitable for your requirements.
As above. Plus, if you tap into the headlight, the DRL will only be energised when the headlamps arebturned on which slightly defeats the object.
Thanks to all. I did pull the front bumper to get to the wiring and completed the DRL install. Now off to inspections
Used a 12v 40amp 4 pin relay. Power from battery, Ign Acc from radio, ground, and power to Red/Pink wire right at left headlight. When ignition is turned on Acc1 power is supplied to headlights via the relay and both headlights (low beam) turn on. Should be ok for passing regulatory inspections.
Oh okay, you are using the standard lamps as the DRL instead of dedicated LED units. Makes sense as it gets around the issue of dimming LEDs when you use the headlights, although the aftermarket voltage detection units are able to handle that.
