Looking at importing an auto from Japan to the UK. The main issue I'm a bit concerned about is the readout on the speedo. I asked the exporter if they could offer advice but they were unable to so I'm throwing this open to members here. Anyone carried out a swap, if so, was it a straight 'plug and play' or did other items need to be changed too?
You mean that it's in KPH and not MPH? The dials can be swapped out, but are awful pricey - was quoted between £70 and £90 just for the speedo If you happen to know the top speed on the speedo in KPH, I'm more than happy to swap you my dual MPH/KPH for your KPH. Some of the Jap speedos are way lower than the Euro ones
Do you need to change it? I had a KPH speedo on my Nissan Figaro imported from Japan and I just had a paper / card mph dial from ebay fitted over the top of the kmph one inside the housing (not just stuck on the top!) Like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-Fi...ty-Dial-New-/121781050212?hash=item1c5ab75b64 It still showed my milage as km but I never had any problems with it for MOTs or anything.
This one is for a Copen http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lockwood-...on-Kit-C789-/400645910704?hash=item5d485b70b0 If you are getting a new style Copen from Japan it might be worth talking to the dealer in Bristol selling them to check what he is using and if this would still fit.
