    Hello,

My Copen has recently fallen victim to the leaking brake light issue (the one on the middle of the boot lid). Took it into a garage to be resealed, but they believe it has been repaired before and has been glued in so strongly that if they try to force it out it is going to break.

I therefore need to source a whole new light for them to install, but I am not sure what part I need to order. I could also do with a recommendation on a parts store as not sure where to order from now that Daihatsu are no longer supporting Europe.

Can anyone help? Its a 2004 model 660cc engine.

    Many thanks

    Hi Gemking82, Welcome to Copenworld.
Daihatsu have not completely abandoned the UK, spare parts are still available.
Visit the below link to find your nearest parts supplier:

    http://daihatsu.co.uk/index2.php

You could also contact this Daihatsu Dealer for parts:
    http://daihatsu-copen.sgpetch.co.uk/pages/parts

Another option is to contact ebay seller:
    impartsb46

They are Daihatsu Distribution UK & can give you a quote for the part.

If you don't mind a colour change you could buy this part from ebay. It's a genuine Daihatsu Copen part from the Ultimate Edition version in Japan:

i'd try some black pu windscreen adhesive around the old one and smooth it off. Nothing to lose? £5 a tube.

that's what I did - still leaking though so now I don't know if I sealed it badly or if it's coming from somewhere else - as it is appearing where people say the light leak should cause it.
the replacement ebay part looks interesting - anyone know if it comes with everything? - i.e the seal to prevent leaks etc... ?

i'm sorely tempted - although knowing my luck i'd get it fitted and find that it's leaking still.
think I need to borrow a smoke machine.

I believe it has something to do with a TUV test in Germany. The E marked part is acceptable where as the plain one is not.
    Am I right Scooty?

Firstly, thank you very much for all the advice! It's extremely helpful - I never expected so many responses!! :)

Reference the Ebay listings, and in particular, the below message regarding the E mark - does that mean then that the cheaper version is not an approved part or a copy or something?

No it's a perfectly legitimate genuine Daihatsu part that is fine for us in the UK.
You'll see in the photo's for the item the Daihatsu Spare Part Label & Part Number.

    We're a helpful bunch ;)

Thanks. I'm going to try to get a quote from one of the other parts dealers, for comparison, but may well just go for the Ebay one. My Copen is silver so I think the Ultimate version would probably look quite smart :)

On a related note, have you ever come across the issue of the windscreen frosting up on the inside on cold nights?

Yeah. My windscreen steams up really easily, and in cold weather will freeze. Blasting the heat with the A/C on will sort that out.

I know a few people have anti-condensation devices in the cabin (as well as the boot, in some cases) to help prevent this and fogged up windscreens - I've found a bit of soapy water on the cabin side of the windshield works a treat.

Thanks. I was worried it meant the seals were going! I'll give the soapy water trick a go. Usually I have to de-ice with a scraper as waiting for A/C to warm up to melt it takes about 10 mins.

I tried rubbing the inside with salt water once (a trick I read about in a magazine) - it was absolutely disastrous! It didn't ice up, but as I was driving along, the whole window ended up turning white - couldn't see a thing!

Just be aware that the ebay part comes from Japan so will have a long delivery.
Also you may incur import Tax charges.
I believe a member has recently bought one from this supplier so might be able to advise on the import tax charges (if any). Can't remember who it was though.

think in some ways the condensation inside is related to the boot leak - since mine i've had lots inside the car. hopefully will go away when sorted.

Thanks. I've ordered the one from Japan as all UK based suppliers I tried didn't have stock and would have needed to order one in from overseas anyway.

Hopefully it will be here in 3 weeks if the delivery dates advertised are accurate :)

In the meantime I have a very ugly looking black sealant helping to keep the water out and still covering it over at night with plastic and towels as still a fair bit of condensation on the inside of the boot lid.
