Hello - does anyone know whether there should be inner arch plastic shields on the rear wheel arches? My wife got new arches fitted and we wonder if there should have been plastic shields fitted to stop gravel, stones dust etc. However, my dealer tells me there is no such thing Any advice welcome
Hi, Unfortunetly they dont have plastic protectors like the front, probably part of the reason the rust gets in there. Andrew
Copen Rear Arches Hi. Certainly, rear arch liners wouldn't hurt, but the real reason the rears rot out is due to the poor design of where the inner & outer arches seal! You'll notice a line of sealer beaded just underneath both arches. The factory sealer corrodes & becomes pourous letting in the damp, which causes the arch to rot from the inside to out. All you can do is seal up the arch properly and stonechip the inside the arch to help protect it. MOST important is to Waxoyl the inner arch cavity with as much as you can! Just open the boot & peel away the carpet under the rubber boot lid seal. You'll find parallel to the centre at the top of the arch a 3/4 Inch round hole. Feed the flexible hose adaptor available with Waxoyl kits through to the left and the right and apply plenty! Make sure the waxoyl is hot by soaking it in a bucket of water for 30 mins before application. Hope this helps? Andrew apt_copen
Hi Andrew, Thanks for the tip - have found the holes you mention, will be applying the Waxoyl over the Easter break. Here's to a rust free Copen! Thanks again.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what equipment did you use to apply Andrew? Do you need a compressor and spray gun with hose? I have seen 'starter kits' on amazon but it is unclear if you still need a compressor. Thanks, Rex.
I've gone with Dinitrol products. Available from here; http://www.frost.co.uk/productList.asp?catID=28&frostCat=Rust&subcatID=35&frostSubCat=Dinitrol S330 Dinitrol Cavity wax - for in the sills & inside the rear arches. S335 Dinitrol underbody wax - for the rear inside arches & floor plan.
Hi apt_copen, could you do me the favour and take a pic of the exact location of that hole? Very much appreciated. Andreas
