today i was outside cleaning my lovely red copen and i had a guy come up 2 me and say about how unusal the copen is and referred it to the nissan figaro ... he also said about he wasnt keen on red cars but said about how nice the copen looks in red which i agreed of course... i do get quite alot of this kind of attention since ive owned my copen... ive had people pull up in their cars and got out just to ask "what is that car?" heh and even saw someone one day just stand there and looked over it like if so he was looking at a super car... its great and does anyone else get the same thing happen to them ??? ... all i need now is for a pretty girl to come up to me and ask about my car
I've experienced inquisitive looks and finger pointing towards my Copen too. Someone asked me what it was. I also got an admiring smile & nod from a young female Copen owner at the petrol station once. Then she noticed I drove a Copen too..............only joking.
dwayner cars tend to be bigger in australia than the UK, so the copen stands out even more - and the comments regarding the copen, are not usually favourable. the funniest i got was "looks like your driving a crash helmut". but the usual Noddy car, stuart little car, matchbox , driving a shoe, driving a death trap, the Icar (referring to the iphone i guess) but most are usually nasty. But after a decade of owning it, i dont care anymore what others say about it.
Oddly where I live general public perception is positive. Even had a group of kids come up to me in the street and ask me about it (I thought it was going to be a piss take but it wasn't!), asking how much it was, is it fast ect... and all that. Once had a lad at a bus stop, probably early 20's shout something like 'fucking idiot' at me when I had the roof down, but as soon as I looked they put their head to the ground (I did have the roof down and it was a nice day, but below freezing and I had a Flying hat and goggles on. I'm not that scary, just an athletic 5' 10" - 14 stone bloke. Best ones are the kids in 'dads car' staring at me in petrol stations when I get in it the kids faces are glued to the windows of (usually a 4x4 of the Nissan or Volvo variety). My mates take the piss all the time saying the front looks girly or 'Get a car/proper car' but the back looks good. I don't care really... It got on the Cool Wall in Top Gear (UK) on S2 E8 when it was launched! Oh and everyone wants to race me when my roof is down... usually and oddly 4x4 types and crossovers like the Nissan Quashqai or Volvo XC40/60/90. Must be jealous dads or something. Then followed by the usual Corsa 1.2's and other shit boxes... Even the executive types get blown away at any type of corner... I stick to the 30/40/50/60 limit ON the round about... I don't go out racing intentonally (or I WILL loose my licence) but you get the odd clown who really wants to race you (like flashing his lights on your ass). In those cases I stick to the speed limit - this is normally on a 60 dual carrageway which in my case has 3 roundabouts of various sizes on my short journey... all of which can be taken at 55-60 mph! That's usually enough to make them think and they back off! Once I did have a bad day and a Guy in a black tuned Seat Ibiza Fr Tdi (de-badged), lowered and big exhaust was on the roundabout and I undertook him. Knowing I'd not beat him in a straight line I raced up to 60mph (the limit) and went through the Mini roundabout at that speed (this roundabout has vision all round it but it's in a slight dip)... he gave in after that! You don't need a faster car to win, just a bit of local knowledge and knowing the limits of the car.
In the end everyone likes the car they have and I don't really give a hoot about what most negative people think. I have something different to drive that always puts a smile on my face and still does 4 months on every time I get in it.
was asked by someone at work yesterday 'What is it? is it electric?' they then went on to say they thought i'd drive an electric car because of who I am (an environmentalist in a multinational corporation). few weeks ago a couple were pointing and smiling as I drove along high st, I stopped and they were v enthusiastic saying they were looking to buy one the same. few hundred yards later I pull into parking space and guy standing there says 'cool car, what is it?'. Maybe it was Copen appreciation day? having owned it since last May I still haven't seen another 1 while i've been driving it.
dwayner Binz, ive had mine for 10 years, and seen a grand total of 3 other copens in my State (Victoria) While in Queensland In the tropics, in Cairns, i saw 12 in one day!! They were rented out by a Backpackers tavellers group for a while.
No I've not seen another one when I've been actually driving mine yet, which is disappointing. I'm looking forward to doing the Copen wave I get really positive comments from my workmates about mine, but when my hubby took it to work, he got laughed at. Clearly it's seen as a girly car. Haven't had more than a few admiring glances as I've driven it, and only one bloke say anything: "nice innit?" I still get such a buzz driving it though, I don't care what people think
I walked out of tesco to find 2 women taking pictures next to my copen! Thought it was odd at first, but after thinking about it I probably would of done the same!
Before I got mine I saw a champagne one in a car park and I was dying to take a photo but I didn't dare.
I was followed by a Porsche Panamera 4S this morning, always stopping directly behind or along me at the lights, and always let me get in front when driving. Same thing I'll do if I see another Copen on the road.
Well we have had my lovely copen for just one week and already had 3 lots of comments so far. The first off 2 youngs lads shouting " nice car", the second "what is that" as we drove past and the third "what the f*** is that"!!!! Well I am getting the feeling that Cohen's are noticed and viewed differently! I must say it's nice not to have a bland car like everyone else
Just today when I was taking photos of my Copen, a guy in a red sport KA approached me to look at the car and tell me that I had a nice car! That made me pretty happy Also my friends girlfriend complimented the car too, saying it was adorable :3 So far I've only been getting nice comments and people smiling at him I guess the Copen's big smile is making others smile too!
It happens to me quite regularly, even though I do not drive much. The funny thing is that its mostly people that have good taste in cars, or own expensive cars that give me compliments or ask questions. Those with "run of the mill" boring station wagons (germans call them "Kombi") are often condescending, even though I would not want their car even if was free
I've only had Belle for a couple of months and she's only been out a handful of timed but I have had several smiles and waves as I've driven her. And I'm still smiling when I get behind the wheel!
