Hi everyone. We are Dawn & Phil who have just laid our much loved Ford Puma to rest due to terminal rust after 9 years of ultra-relaible service.

Our search for a replacement car had no particular constraints but when Dawn spotted a lovely 2004 plated, Pearlescent white Copen at a local dealer we just had to check it out.

Web searches seem to indicate nothing but love and adoration for these little cars and coupled with brilliant reliability and the potential for classic car status it all seemed very promising.

Initially we were sold on the cute looks but when approaching the car in the flesh we immediately dismissed it as being too small.

Then the magic button was pressed and the hood retracted perfectly leaving an inviting smart sports car.

A long test drive followed. The car feels bigger once you are inside it and handles brilliantly. The low power takes a bit of getting used to but once you realise that you can't do many things 'quickly' in a Copen we settled down to enjoy the ride.

The car was fitted with a new Turbo and had a full service. It has red leather heated seats and all seem to work fine.

Dawn and I love it and she is met with admiration and curiosity by all who see the car.

Our first week of ownership discovered a boot full of water after rain but returning to the dealer, he adjusted some rubber boot shuts and since then the problem seems to have gone :) I am aware that this can be a common problem so we will keep an eye on that one.

Some rusting on both front and rear sill to wheelarches has been professionally done and once the boot dries out we will invest in some professional waxoyl rustrproofing inside and out which will hopefully remove these worries.

I bought a spare set of wheels off EBAY, the seller turned out to be our CopenWorkd spares man Adam K. I wanted to have one spare available just in case and I haven't yet tried to see if it will fit in the boot or not. If not then the garage will do and the RAC can take us home in the unfortuate event of a puncture.

So if you are in Wiltshire please do let us know and may be we can meet up etc.

    Safe driving everyone :)

    Hi Phil & Dawn,
Great to meet you yesturday if only for a brief Copen chat.
Welcome to Copenworld. You'll find lots of helpful information on here. In the directory section at the top of the forum you'll find the service manuals to download. Although you'll only get access after being a member for a few days & making a few posts.
Keep an eye out for water droplets on the boot partition. If you see it you know the brake light seal has gone.

There are a couple of rust protection threads. This is my one:

The wheel will fit in the boot, but you won't be able to put the roof down. In the boot you should find the compressor & tub of gunk for punctures. The gunk will be out of date by now though. So you just need to keep a can of tyre weld instead.

Ah I was told that their is only one pearlescent white in the country so now we know there are at least two! Hi Princess.

Yes, it's a fabulous colour that so compliments the retro looks.

I'm lust loving this fab car! Just walking up the drive puts a smile on my face.

Good news is that after the nice Dealer at BowerHill had adjusted the boot closure stops it's all dry now.

So i've stripped out the jack and sodden tool kit and dried them all throroughly and cleaned them all up and protected them with WD40. I've then wrapped them in clear polythese bag ready to refit in the boot.

I can't find the compressor anywhere so I expect that has long gone.

Have spoken to a local Marcos Sports car specialist about the wayoyl protection and have booked her in for next week. They will do all inside and out for about £180. If they find any rust they will clean and treat as they go. Let's hope they don't find too much then:)

funny thing is I never liked white cars -but recently I've suddenly fallen in love with them since a shiny white z4 passed me by a few weeks back.

As far as i am aware our copen is the only one in the WORLD!!! that was made in pearl white with white leather :D. It was made for the sunday times motorshow back in 2003-2004.

I regularly check japanese auto trader type website to check if there are any more in japan with the same colour combo, but so far none have been found!!! :D YAH!!!

Again congrats on your purchase, i hope it gives you as much pleasure as our's has. :)
