Hi all forgive me if this has been discussed before. Just booked the car in for its 42,000 mile service ( oil change !!!! ) and nearly fell off my chair when i was quoted £115. Cherrytree garage have a good local reputation and used to look after my mates charade so i do trust them. we discussed oil on the other daihatsu forum but they aren't too hot on the copen maintenance so i thought i'd ask all your opinions, daihatsu don't specify fully synthetic oil but if we use it can the service be stretched to 4000 miles ??, off the record the guys at cherrytree reckon if the car does mainly longer journeys the interval can be increased even on semi-synth'. I'm seriously considering doing the servicing myself now as i can't believe all the belts and pulleys are going to play up and need expert attention ( part of the service cost apparently! ) since its last main dealer service. I wonder if this will really affect its value as up untill now it has a main dealer fsh and fully stamped book ? cheers Jez
Hi Jezza, The cost you quoted sounds pretty standard for an oil change from a dealer. If you can, it's cheaper to tackle the job yourself. I've checked through the service manuals (Section B5) & it states you should use: 5W-30 (API grade SG or higher). I would use Magnatec 5W-30 (SL). Changing the oil is not easy on the 660 engine. You should invest in the oil filter removal tool; Daihatsu part number 09228-87201-000 - Wrench Oil Filter Again personally, I would still change it every 3000 miles. Also keep the receipts for buying the oil & filter. By keeping them it keeps the service history of your car update. It would be good enough proof for me, that the oil has been changed regularly. The Service manual in section B5 shows the procedure. With a good picture of where the filter is relative to the engine mount.
Hello, I change mine myself, allways use fully synthetic and after hearing all the horror stories about turbo's breaking i change mine just under every 6 months (i dont do 3000 miles in six months). After getting the right oil filter removal tool the jobs easy, just a bit messy.
Hi guys thanks for your thoughts, i must be dim as i can't find the procedure for oil change as mentioned above in section B5, all i can see is about camshafts ? sadly for me the missus has nicked the car and is doing 500 miles a week in it ! thanks for the link Adam i've ordered a filter socket and guess i'll be under the car every couple of months
