As we all should know, you never connect a jump start pack's negative to the negative terminal of a battery.

In a Copen, where should one connect the negative terminal? I have been connecting it to the circular metal support for the engine cover, as connecting it to the radiator pipe does not work. This is not ideal, however, as the circular support is just above the fuel intake / throttle body.

    I didn't know that, why not ?

Do you mean when jump starting from another car or from say a Black & Decker jump start 'box'

Sparking, so I was told. This contradicts the new lithium ion jump start pack I got, which says to connect direct to the terminals.

Well I've never had any issue with connecting direct to the battery. Always connect the Positive first, then the negative.
You might see a small spark if you did it the other way around, and you'd see a huge spark if you connected the two terminals together.

I usually look for a good sized bolt (with out paint on it) suspension is good as it usually has very good contact with the body
