I am thinking of replacing my radio with a Sony DAB/fm radio with Bluetooth. However I am uncertain if an aerial splitter which are advertised widely will work with the standard Copen aerial. The manufacturers of these devices warn that they may not work with amplified aerials. I'm not sure if the Copen aerial is amplified. Does anyone have any experience of fitting a DAB radio to a Copen. Thank you.
Yep I have a DAB radio in mine. I got the DAB aerial from Halfords, that sticks onto the front windscreen. I ran the cable from the radio, above the glove box, the up the A pillar and it sits at the left hand side of the screen near the top. Works a treat on DAB or FM.
Many thanks for this advice. I am going to try this. How did you remove the trim from the A pillar? It seems well fixed and I don't want to damage it. Also where did you connect the black wire from the antenna to?
From memory, you remove the metal catch at the top of the pillar then pop it out. I just popped it out enough to run the wire down, behind the glove box and into the radio, as it should have a DAB aerial port.
Yes, loosen the roof catch via the two screws but be careful as the sensor wire in the catch is very thin and weight of the catch could break it if you're not careful. (I taped the catch up against the window frame whilst popping out the A pillar cover) When you have freed the top of the cover it's all easy as the bottom of the cover is like two plastic forks which just slide into place
I did not need to remove anything in order to get the DAB aerial cable fitted. If you look hard enough there is enough of a small gap, about the size of the DAB cable plug end, in the bottom corner where the windscreen / A pillar / dash all intersect. I was able to feed the DAB cable down through that gap then along under the dash (remove the glove box to feed it through). Also I was then able to tuck the cable in behind the A pillar cover (between the cover and the windscreen) without much trouble.
Thanks to everyone for the advice above. I removed the trim from the A pillar as suggested. The antenna (Audiolines stick on from Halfords) works well and the sound from the DAB radio is great.
