Hi and welcome, the dreaded rust Eh, just noticed some on my front arch today Arghh, must have been the salt over winter
Hi, welcome to the forum! Rust really is the biggest pain, i think someone should come up with some plastic body panels for the copen
Hello & Welcome... RUST... me too! Make sure they spray as much Waxoyl as possible into the inner-arch cavities in the rear wheel areches and sills! ESCPECIALLY if this is just a respray job, and not a panel replacement! Otherwise it will be back in 6 months!
Welcome princess, So which do you prefer driving Copen or your Audi Be honest, we can take it - I think.
The dreaded rust.. thanks everyone for the advice on the rust, had some repairs done before we picked up the car, but during my husbands recent clean he found rust near the front wing/sills behind the front doors on both sides:-(( having this repaired/treated in the next 2 weeks...its gotobe righty my whitey copen princess x x
dwayner seems to be a lot of rust issues in the UK copens - when i was out in the vineyards a few months ago, i ran into another copen and chatted with the owner and we both said we havent seen any rust anywhere, underneith or on the paintwork. We have both had our cars for minimum of 6 years, so is it more to do with the climate of the area? I heard somewhere they spray salt on roads to keep them clear of snow, is this actually true? Is that whats causing the rust in the wheel arches?
HI Dwayner, Yes over here in good old Blighty. They spread salt onto the roads to stop them icing up in the winter. When the cars came over from Japan, I don't think they protected the bodies as well as they could have done. If the sealing between the inner & outer arch on the rear isn't perfect. All that salt spray can get inside & start the conversion to iron oxide. Mine certainly didn't have any cavity wax in the rear arches. A similar situation happened with the Suzuki Cappuccino. Lots of rust.
