Hi Bludgod, Welcome to the forum. Which engine size are you looking at, 1.3 or 660? Is it's a 660, check that the oil has been changed regularly. It should be done every 3000 miles/6 months. You should also check for rust. If it's within the warranty (6 years for corrosion) & has the all the body check stamps in the back of the service book you can get the work done by Daihatsu. Including getting the alloys changed. The alloys are prone to getting corroded. Check the rear arches, particularly at the top edge just before the bumper starts. Plus the front leading face of the sills, just behind the front wheels. Check the condition of the exhaust. The chrome tips rust off. The mid section fails just before the silencer. Look under the car on the driverside just by where the door finishes. New exhaust are expensive. If the whole exhaust needs changing. It's cheaper to get a custom stainless one made. You looking for about £350. Opinions very on which engine size is better. The 1.3 is quicker, but the 660 is more fun. My personal opinion is for the 660 over the 1.3.
