Hi Everyone. Im from N.Ireland and the proud owner of a brand spanking new copen (well it was in september). Nearly 3500miles on it already Here comes the questions!!!! Does the copen not come with the tonneau cover as standard? Has anyone been able to find aftermarket wheels that fit? (im not that fond of the standard daihatsu ones) Anyways heres some pics i took yesterday. Please excuse the dirt its impossible to keep it clean these wonderful winter days
Hi there, welcome to copenworld! I saw your post over on the Copen Owners Club site - I'm glad you joined us, and I hope you enjoy using this site. The tonneau cover is available as part number DACC3672 from Daihatsu, but at nearly £400 it's debatable whether it's worth it. I've used mine once since I bought it in September, but then the weather has hardly been ideal for it! If you're interested in getting one, it would be worth contacting your local dealer for the latest price. I know it used to be about £100 cheaper, but the exchange rate pushed the price rather high when I bought it. Hopefully, another member may be able to give you some advice on new wheels. I hope you can stick around and become an active member of our small but friendly community.
Hi jcw, in Germany you must order the tonneau cover (I guess you mean the plastic-hood which will be installed behind the seats) as an extra. Especially as there must be installed also a sensor and holders for this. To install this afterwards is quite difficult. Concerning wheels & tieres ... of course ... their are many possibilitys in 15" or 16". I also know a dutch Copen driver which already have 17" following you can see some examples. CU Andreas
Thanks for the pics. Do you know any makes or sizes that will fit? Iv tried a few places and they dont know of any aftermarket wheels the same size as the copen!
The diffrent sizes which I know by heart are ... 5.5 X 15 (wheel offset 38) 6.5 X 15 (wheel offset 40) 6,5J x 16 (wheel offset 37) 7 x 16 (wheel offset 38) For the 16" you need most times a "steering angle limiter" and a "range of spring limiter". I hope this wording is not too wrong, as I am not a native speaker I am not sure if my translation is correct CU Andreas
wording is spot on I tried a 16" 6.5J but it sat outside the arch so any big pot holes would have caused the wheel to hit the arch rather than damping up inside it. The wheels in those photos didnt look to sit out too wide though
Hi, jcw! That's a very smart little Copen. I hope you find some wheels that fit - I had a Volkswagen Beetle (one of the old ones, natch) with wheels fitted by some cowboy garage that were too wide for the arches, and they DID hit when you went over a bump. I don't recommend it. And if that's your Copen dirty, you must have to look at it through smoked glass when it's clean...!
Yehhh, another N Ireland owner. Welcome to the site jcw. Your Copen is absolutely gorgeous. I'll look out for you on the roads. You don't see too many Copens here do you? Mine is silver with a tiny little body kit. M.
I have a few pics but they are too big and the site won't let me post them. I need to take some more at a lower setting but I have to wait for some decent weather for that. PM me your email addresss and I'll email them to you. Whereabouts are you? I'm in Belfast. I've had a few thoughts about organising a Copen day out next summer if I can get enough owners interested. Maybe a drive up the Antrim coast or around the Ards peninsula? Would you be up for that? I'd think we need at around 4 or 5 Copens. Whaddya think? M.
