Has anybody converted the roof to purely manual?

After a failure of my roof of which I managed to close with excellent advice from users (thank you) I am contemplating the idea of changing the roof to being purely manual. Has anybody done this before? In basis terms I was looking at hinging the boot at the rear and then manually drop the rear window and roof panel into the existing void. I would probably use external catches to secure the boot closed. An even more radical idea is a canvas roof and hinge the boot at the front. I am after a 100% foolproof solution and like thinking outside the box! Thanks Paul.

It would be much cheaper, easier, simple and effective to just fix the roof system you already have.

I have thought about converting one into a removable hard top.
