My front grille was damaged last night. Someone backed up and their towbar cracked my grille. I have their details, but rather than go straight to an insurance claim I thought I'd see how much they cost, and how easy they are to get. There isn't a hole in the grille, just a cracked section, so it might be repairable. The culprit is an acquaintance, so I want to get this sorted in the most economical and hassle-free way. Anyone got a grille for sale (1.3 2008 in silver, but colour can be sorted), or know a good source of Copen spares?
Better repair it because you'll be surprised by their cost! Except if you find it for cheap in some junkyard or something. On the other hand, if you got the money you can go for one of those limited edition grilles that look really cool...
My go-to option is search for copen's breaking then ring the sellers to see if they have what I want - daihatsu copen breaking | eBay Ebay has the ultimate edition listed at £172....with £6,172.83 postage I think that might be a mistake. K&S have it Radiator Grille Ultmate Edition 282 Euros They also have a nice mesh version for 170 Euro...or the mesh version with an emblem on it for 452 Euros...what the hell is the emblem made of, platinum? It was a 4x4 that reversed into me Only cracked the radiator grille with his tow hitch but I had just got the car up to scratch at no little cost and it was looking superb. I have looked for second-hand grilles today but no responses yet. I can get a new one for £203.30, but when I phoned the guy and told him that he started back-pedalling. Said things like -"I was only going really slowly, if it's that fragile you are being unrealistic keeping it in mint condition" "You could easily have got that in a car park." . "I Could have pulled forward and you would not have known what caused it." . "I don't see why I should be penalised to the tune of £200 for a little bump like that, when it would not have damaged a normal car". So, I have said I will try to look for a cheaper alternative, as I really don't want to go through his insurance company with its associated hassle. However, if he digs his heels in, I will. Why should I put up with damage, however small, due to someone else's negligence? I need to do something, as although teh g-cracking doesn't look bad, if I run it like that, it will get worse.
What an ass. It doesn't matter how slowly you're going, a metal tow hitch is going to damage any car you hit because the whole momentum of the car is focused down to that one point of contact. If he didn't have a tow hitch you'd have a much larger impact area and probably just a scuffed bumper. His accessory is the problem not your car. And if he's reversing into things with the tow hitch empty, I don't think he should be towing anything that makes it more difficult for him!
I have one, a stock one, happy to sell to you - I am in New Zealand. There is nothing wrong with it, I just replaced it with a chrome ultimate edition grille. Not sure how to arrange payment though as I am a person, not a business - international bank transfer I guess. I have paypal but have only ever used it to buy things, not sure if I can receive money. ive got a spare grill! took standard off my 1.3 and fitted a cabrio supply sports grill (£139 inc p&p) looks great and their luggage rack is spot on as well, anyhow, if youre still looking I'm here.

Thanks. I think it's the same as the one @Vin Petrol suggested. I will go for this if I can't find an original. I do like the look of the steel mesh one but was hoping to keep the car original.
Hi Sandie, The OEM product is as below, you can paint it any colour you like. I don't think NZ post would be dear. I will check shipping Monday. We are a poor country with a crap currency and it is just a lightweight piece of plastic. I still have the box the chrome grille came in.
Thanks Joy. What a fabulous colour your Copen is. The chrome grille looks gorgeous on it. If it's no trouble, it would be good to know what the postage would be. I am waiting to hear back from Alistair. I's not inconceivable that it might be more expensive to send one from Scotland!
